My son is having an operation this week. He is 5 and the doctors told me to explain what is going to happen. Today I decided to have a talk to him. I said: we are going to hospital this week you are having your tonsills taken out. As he has developmental delay I tried another way. I said see (and I gave him a mirror) you have balls in your mouth and se me mummy doesnt have them. After he had a good look he said: thats because you are a girl and I am a boy girls dont have balls. I was on the floor when he said that.

LMAO oh my gosh that is too funny. Kids really say the funniest things LOL When my son was little he had a problem in his unmentionable area and had to have an ultrasound down there. The lady had the instrument on him and turned the screen so he could see and asked him if he knew what it was and at 2 and a half he shouldn't have lol he told her they were balls LOL because they were round he assumed thats what they were we all nearly fell over laughing it was sooooo funny

Good, it could be quite an awkward moment when he starts telling his friends that he doesn't have balls, because he got them removed.

oh dear yeah you are right that never crossed my mind. I should have used better words to explain it to him. But the thing is we never even use those words for that I have no ides where he got it.

I wonder why at a very age he should undergo surgery... I cant imagine the tiny body of a five year old boy. But I think it would be for the better.
That was really funny. You have a very wonderful son. This reminds me of the simple lines that my daughters would say in the middle of serious situation that would make me laugh.I know during that time, you are looking for the right word to make him understand what will going to happen, at the same time worried for your son. I am a mother and I know how it feels. But all of a sudden, your son would give you lines like that... that would really be funny. Funny, that they find something funny that we know we wont think it that way.
I believe you have a very strong and wise son. I hope his operation will be just fine. I will be glad if you would tell us how his operation be going. We'll pray for your son.

He needs that operation as he is not able to breathe properly, he has runny nose 24/7 most year, his hearing is affected and so is his speach so yeah he needs it done yesterday but hey thats the Aussy health system. I am in a way lucky that many people dont understand what he is saying or I would walk around with red face all day long some days. Its nothing that bad but little things. Last year when my cousin had her twins he walked around pointing to every man and woman with a big stomac and say things like look mummy that lady is having a baby as well like aunt Snez.

I have no idea where that came from but I wasnt expecting it at all. My nephew told everyone at a party that mummy is not going to buy him a baby but the baby will come out of her bumm. Kids will say the cutest things when you dont expect it. And thanks for the well wishes I just wish they keep him over night in hospital (or hostiball as my son calls it)

No they dont they consider it as a minor operation and they are usualy send home the same day. I asked for him to be kept in hospital overnight but we will see. If there is no complications they send them home. Anyway my son every time I correct him sais silly mummy thats not right or that is what I am saying as well.
