Scholarships - what are they all about?

I personally have been a recipient of financial assistance for my education for quite some time now and I feel that I owe a lot to other people.
But it's not in the sense that "I owe them, thus I must pay them back" but rather "I owe them, thus I will be the best person I can be and share what I achieve with others".
Apparently, some scholarship recipients do not think this way. They think that it's the responsibility of other people to give them financial assistance because those other people have to share what they have. I even read this article, personally written by a scholar, that it's the obligation of the rich to give assistance to scholars. For me, this is a twisted view of scholarship. We are recipients of scholarship because those people (who may not actually be rich but who chose to share the fruits of their hard work) chose to give it to education and not to some other form of charity.
What do you think?

I agree with you. No one HAS to give money for scholarships. If they CHOOSE to do so, you should be gracious and say thank you. Then make the best use you can of your education their generosity enabled you to get.
Those who feel entitled to the money, should be smacked and sent to bed without their suppers. They are incredibly spoiled children.

Yes, thanks for your point.
And to think that they are benefiting from scholarships. It makes want to knock their heads. I feel they don't deserve the title of scholars..
