Politician are always coming up with new program to take care of the citizens of their country, but why? Why do we need government to do the caretaking? Are those that believe that government should not take care of peoples lives just selfish? Why do people never think about the cost of free government programs? These are my questions, will anyone stepup.

People want the government to take care of them so they don't have to take the responsibility to care for themselves.
The government was never intended to be a welfare state... yet far too many seem to think that it should become one.
I believe in personal responsibility and the freedom to choose the way I live my life including my moral standards, whether or not I want to smoke and when and where, the ability to live my daily life without government interference, to choose whether or not to buy health insurance, and to worship as I please.
I also believe in as minimal of government as possible, with the powers limited to those set forth in our Constitution.
I view the people who think government should take care of them as selfish, because in order for the government to do that the money has to come from somewhere... usually in the form of increased taxation.
Government services are not free, those people that use the programs don't think of the cost because they are not the one's paying for it.

I don't know what you are so up tight about.
In the first place I am talking about the US, I don't really give a rip what Canada does.
In the second place, I am talking about those individuals that seem to think the government (that means taxpayers) owes them a living and is waiting for the next handout, or minimum wage increase or socialized health care or any of that other socialist crap.
In the third place, I am disabled as well after having paid into the system for thirty years.
There is a difference between being unable to work, and wanting a handout.
If the choice was mine, I would still be working.... as it is, I have about another 8 years before I am eligible for my retirement pension at which time I will no longer be collecting disability.
So what's your beef?

Because the "easy way" is the path of least resistance.
