Nose Hairs...

Hello Nostril Fanatics,
Can someone please explain to me why it should be that pulling nose hairs induces one to sneeze?
I know that everything about our bodily responses have some practical basis.
So why does tearing a nose hair out by the roots cause a sneezing reflex?
Are we to assume that somewhere in the distant past, now shrouded by the mists of time, there were creatures that thrived on harvesting nose hairs from nostrils, and the appropriate response was to forcefully expel them with a sneeze?
Was there ever such an animal as a Nostrilosaurus? A tiny, devilishly cunning little lizard with bulging biceps and prehensile digits tailored to tugging hairy bits from snouts?
I sit here poised for any and all wisdom on this subject, with such anticipation that I can barely restrain myself.

My dad once picked up a hitchhiker (it was my dad, me, my sister, grandparents, and mom in the van) who had nose hairs all the way to the top of his lip. My dad mistakenly thought the guy had been in a one car wreck, and needed a lift. I should mention the hitchhiker had his hood pulled over his nose because of the cold. Maybe if his nose had been visible my dad would have gone on by. Instead, the guy actually wanted a ride back to the mental hospital he had escaped from about 3 hours prior (we found out his intended destination when he was already in the van). And yes, that is the last time we ever let my dad pick up anyone trying to wave him down.

Well, I've never had a nose hair pulled out by the roots, and so far (knock on wood) I don't need to. However, I have plucked my eyebrows before, to keep a nice arc to make sure my eyelashes stand out and are accentuated (of course), and almost every time I would pluck an errant eyebrow hair below the arc, I would sneeze. Thus, there are two reasons I hate to do that. One, I sneeze, two, it stinkin' hurts.

Hi Spookybutt,
It appears to me that (besides having a spooky butt) you're a rather peculiar individual.
I get the impression that you'd cause the local doctor all sorts of grief, eg, when he taps your knee with his little hammer, you'd sneeze! And when he says to poke out your tongue and say "ahh", your eyes would roll back and your head would turn 360 degrees...
Spooky indeed...
