After having 4 wonderful dogs, all of them are gone. All had to be euthanized due to health problems. 3 of them were nearly 15 years old. I have decided not to get another dog as the end is just too hard. Anyone feel the same?

We had to put my dog down over the Summer, it was aweful, but she kept falling down and couldn't get back up for hours. I know that we did the right thing for her, but it was so heartbreaking, I still cry over her frequently. I do love dogs very much and do think that I will eventually get another one, but I am not in a hurry. I am still in so much pain. I wish dogs lived longer. For now I am doing a lot of dog sitting for family members. I get to spend time with a dog for a few days, but I don't have to deal with any of the hard issues. I totally understand how you feel. I have to think that the love of a good dog for several years is worth it, but I am not ready to start again yet.

Yes, I also think it would be difficult, but I've been lucky I haven't had to make the decision yet. I did however had a cat that was squished by a car that sped up!! I am sure you pets were very lucky to have you as their owner.

I understand what you are saying. I tend to feel that my pets are my family and they are just as valuable to me as people are. Sadly, their lives are just so short. I'm now living with one 9 year old dog and a house full of 10+ year old cats. I know that the days they will be with me are getting shorter and shorter and I really dread the days that it will end for each of them. My life is going to be pure tormoil. I love my babies, but honestly do not think I will replace them once they go.
