Wal-Mart Does it Again....

Wal-Mart has found yet another way to milk money out of the less fortunate.
The Wal-Mart Bank has arrived....
This time, though, it's different. This new Wal-Mart MoneyCard is like a standard debit card by any issuing bank in the U.S. For many, a debit card pulls funds out of a standard checking account (backed by real money in the bank, not a credit loan).
You basically have a bank account without the bank. Since credit and debit cards are universally accepted almost everywhere worldwide, you can buy anything at anytime at any place with a "loaded" Wal-Mart MoneyCard.
All this sounds good until you get to the fees...that's where they get you by the short hairs.
As a MoneyCard holder, Wal-Mart has you both waysAnd don't think those fees are something Wal-Mart won't be collecting -- it does. Although Wal-Mart's MoneyCard fees are competitive, the fees are still there. The retailer has an initial activation fee of $8.94 and a monthly maintenance fee of $4.94, which goes right along with its store-level retail pricing (ever see a price in Wal-Mart end in $.99?). There is also a "reload" fee of $4.64, but that is canceled if you set up your Wal-Mart MoneyCard as a recipient of your paycheck direct deposit.
Further, that $5 "maintenance" fee is waived if the card user reloads $1,000 a month or more to the MoneyCard. ATM withdrawals also have a fee, but are free if you wander into a Wal-Mart location and get cash from a register using your card.
What do you think? Would you want the card with all those fees attached? Not me, I'll just keep my bank debit card with no fees thank you. I think it's just one more way for Wal-Mart to get the little guy and all his money.

I guess this will be only worth it to those that can't get a checking or savings account.. Usually because they stiffed the bank at some point or another in their life.
To them these fees and the ability to direct deposit their check somewhere.. might be worth it.. and I guess Walmart is hoping for that too.

Yea, that's what I figure also. If you can't get an account at a bank well I guess it's better than nothing...but oh those fee's are something else...lol

Wow, I was thinkin gof getting one of those but now I think I have changed my mind. I can't get a debit card from ym bank I have tried. But since I don't draw a steady monthly income they don't think I need one. I have thought to get a prepid or a walmart debit but as you stated all those fees will cost me more then the card is worth. I even checked out a paypal one the other day and they requested a credit card to be able to get one..hello if I had a credit card I wouldn't be needing a debit card..you are right seems like they are all out to get the little guys. Isn't it enough that the prices of everything has skyrocketed? Nope they still want more and more. I agree with you. If I could have a debit card form my bank I would stick with it instead.

I can not believe all of the fees that they are collecting on with these cards. I don't have to use them as I along with you get a bank card with my checking account and do not have to pay all of those fees and have the same benefits that I would get from the Wal-Mart card. I would not pay those fees to Wal-Mart or any other company to use my own money.

That is sure alot of fees! I will just use my own debit card from my own bank which does not have any fees. You are right Walmart just wants to milk money out of people anymore they are not about making the customere happy anymore they are about how much money they can get the customer to spend.

Ya well, leave it to Wal-Mart to figure out a way to gouge you. What a lovely time to put it out on the market as well. Let's see, no health benefits for their employees, they've taken out lay-away for the customers and are getting rid of the crafts dept. So what's left? OH, that's right. How can I forget the overly priced little eateries that they have for the customers.
