have you ever heard of aral sea? it is known to be the biggest of the man made disasters. as a result of poor management of water, aral sea, which used to be the 4th largest inland sea turned out to be a ship cemetery now.
it is located in middle asia. there are a lot of published websites on this issue. it is really exciting to read all those.
now a lot of measures are being taken to refill the sea.
just go through the picture. can you ever believe that it was a sea once?

good, i like to share information, especially fascinating facts like this. there are lots of pictures available on the net. now they have realized the fact and started feeding back the southern or small aral. but it literally means letting the northern or big aral die for ever...

That is an amazing photo. I will search for websites about this as I want to read more. Thank you for posting about it. I hope something can be learned from what has happened and the sea can be saved and will fill again. It is a loss to the whole planet, not just to the local fishermen and wildlife which has been lost.

actually, there were two big rivers which used to feed this sea. what happened was erstwhile ussr diverted both these rivers to irrigate cotton plantations in nearby countries. so, gradually, the inflow of water to the sea got reduced. as a result, it started shrinking.
now the seashore went back to 70 miles from the previous seashore. just imagine, you have to travel 70 miles to see the seashore from th old port.

I find it difficult to imagine but it does show how dangerous it is for us to interfere with nature.
