Does anyone else find this photo freaky?

If you look at the photo that represents this parenting section, the picture of the hand holding the tiny tiny baby, what is your reaction? Maybe you think it's cute. Personally I find it really freaky. Maybe it's because I'm a parent myself that I have this reaction, as I just know how heartbreaking it would be to see a real baby of this size (equivalent roughly to a 12 week old fetus?) being held in the palm of somebody's hand. Am I alone in this view?

Im a parent of three and don't find it freaky. I see where you are coming from but in my opion it stands for what parenting is. We as parents need to take our children into the palm of our hands and keep them safe.

Yes, I can really see that now! My view of the photo has changed drastically over the last few weeks and now I think that it's a lovely photo and can relate to it totally. I can see where everyone's coming from now :) Thanks for your reply.

No, I don't think it's freaky at all. I'm a parent, too, but I just saw these babies as the works of art that they are. They are dolls made by Camille Allen. She has a web site if you would like to see more. She makes minatures and life-size dolls. They are mostly one-of-a-kind, and sell fast. The prices range from about $100 to $3000. The ones in seashells are so cute; then she also makes some in egg shells. Maybe after you look at the site, you won't feel the same about them. There was a urban legend that they are made of marzipan...they are not and they never have been. lol

Thanks for your post. The photo has now grown on me and I see it now as more of a cute picture than a disturbing one! It's interesting what you say about the website. I saw a television programme recently about someone who makes lifelike baby dolls like this, although probably not the same lady as she was English. The programme focused on the life-sized ones and people who buy them and then care for them as if they're real babies; putting them to sleep in a cot, taking them to the supermarket or the park in a pram, burping them and talking about them as if they were real. This programme really disturbed me and is probably why I initially found this photo so freaky!

To be honest with you, I thought it is quite cute, I am a parent but I do not really think of it in terms as sad or connected with a preemie. I can see it from your point of view though and I expect there are others who may think the same too.

I had to come back here and say that after looking at this picture on and off for three weeks it's really grown on me and I'm no longer freaked out by it!! I was initially surprised that more people didn't agree with my first thoughts about it, but now I can see it differently and I'm not looking at it so literally. Thanks for your reply.
