I have noticed lately that most of my friend are women i think, i thought about this discussion as i was reading responses to another discussion i started about a missing friend, some people thought that she was a man. .
Do you know the gender of your friends? do you care? and what do you figure the ratio of men to women is on mylot ?

Nope, it doesn't really matter what gender my friends are, although I know the gender of each of them here on the Lot. And it's funny, but I've never been wrong yet about the gender of a poster who's responded to me or vice versa. Not that that says anything, but... When I think about it, though, I've got more men friends here than women, which really surprises me, frankly. Interesting, I wouldn't have predicted that. Except for, it seems to me that the men who post here are generally a bit more open minded and liberal than the women. That's not a qualifying statement, either, it's a quantifying one. But curious too, I think. You know, I've never thought much about this, Sissy, till now. Good for you, girl, you've given me something to ponder. Very good discussion. ANd I think, to answer your last question, that there are more women posters here than men.

Hello Sissygrl!:-)
Interesting question!
I think there are much more women on this forum than there are men, which is understandable too. With that in mind, it would be quite probable that number of friends on friends list who are women are higher than men. I have never seen, or at least never took into consideration, someone's gender while making friends with someone here and to be honest, I don't know gender of all people on my friends list. I don't know either in what percentage each gender is but I think women are more than men.

I've been on mylot for like 4-5 days and i think there are e bit more men but the woman post more! Don't know if my friends are lying about their gender, i don't think so cause yeah, why would you lie on a community like this! THis isn't a dating site! People don't care who you are but they do care what you opinion is!

I know by responding to some who have alot of discussions out that they are women only because they say so in their responses or discussions. Otherwise I judge by name or photo which with photos and names don't really let you know much because some could have a photo of a person they like or love or with some of the names I don't even know how to pronounce them so I don't truly know exactly how many of which that I have more of unless I converse with them often enough. Actually no, I don't care, why should we really care if they are friends. People can have a majority of female or male friends in real life so why not online? It is how they interreact with you in discussions and how good you get to know them that makes them friends. I don't care either way a friend is a friend. I figure they are alot more women on mylot then men and not because we have more time might be because we have more patience..

i don't really care what gender my friends on mylot. all i care is that i can write something and i get paid for what i write when people like my writing and even if i don't, that will tell me that i have to change what i am writing and try to be better at it. i learn everyday just by being on mylot. i acquire a lot of information just by reading discussions and writing ones myself. i like to check mylot everyday to see what's new. one thing that i care about is accepting friends that have common sense. if someone requested for me to be their friend, i would not just rush into accepting the invitation. i would consider the facts and reasons why i am accepting these people into my list. i must have compelling reasons to accept these people.

I think I am fairly split down the middle, but some are hard to tell as their names and avatars are vague enough that they could be either male or female. It's not something I particularly think about when friendind someone or accepting a friend request.

I think most of mine are female also but I do have quite a few male friends. It doesn't really matter to me though...if we have something in common then we're friends whether it's a male or female.
I think probably the amount of men and women here is fairly equal...the amount of posting done by them varies though. The SAHM's here have more time to post (lol depending on how you look at it) than their working dad counterparts but someplaces place more emphasis on men earning money so while they are here posting their wives are busy being kept in traditional gender roles.

I do care because I don't want to call them her when her is a "he" or vice versa..Other than that, I wouldn't care one way or another..

It doesn't matter to me the gender of my friends. friends are friends after all. I think more women are on this site more then men from what I have seen, but of course not all people show how what gender they are in their avatar.

Good question. I have a good cross-section of both. My friends are wonderful. I regret I am not able to visit MyLot as much as I'd like so I can enjoy and support all my friends here. Thank you for such a profound question; reminds me of how lucky I am to have found this site.

Hello, my friend.
I have never noticed when adding somebody. I usually don't mind the gender of the person. The society nowadays stablish certain patterns for how should women act and how should men act. By not noticing the gender, I stop creating a bad idea on the person based only on what we see nowadays, instead of understanding his/her's feelings.
What I mean is, it doesn't matter to me at all if I have a girl as a friend or a boy. They're my friends, and I will act exactly the same way with both.
Now, I believe that there are a lot more women in here. If I am not mistaken, I have seen loads of friends requests coming from women, not from men. I believe that the ratio should be as big as 2:1 women per man. What do you believe to be the ratio?
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

I just participated in mylot's discussions for a few days, and have made some friends.I didn't think about the gender when i invited them, but now i realize that I have only one male friends, but four female friends. So maybe the ratio of men to women is kinda 1:4.
Kidding.
