My dog is a fairly big dog, she's a siberian Husky so needs lots of exercise. Alot of times I don't get the chance to walk her and I feel bad because she packs on the weight in the summer. That's the problem, it's so hot here 6 months out of the year that she won't go outdoors. she has a big yard to romp around in but stays indoors all summer long.

I walk my dog sometimes. I really haven't done that lately though because it has been some nasty weather outside. We mainly walk him when it is nice outside. My daughter takes him for walks for us too. She did the other day. My dog stays indoors too but we let him out in the yard to run around in the summer and fall. We have it fenced in and he can get in the shade. We also put him in the pool with us sometimes too, so he can cool off. He is very small though.

I walk my dog four times a day. When it gets hot here, and it will, I will definitely shorten those walks. When he's inside in the air conditioning, he livens up quite a bit until he gets outside and even the pavement is too darn hot to walk on. I probably wouldn't walk him so much if he wasn't "I have to walk a half a mile before I poop, or I will come in and poop inside later". It gets me out and that's a good thing I think.

I'm really surprised that you can let your husky out in your backyard. We wouldn't dream of it. We have a siberian husky and he is a true Sibe, an escape artist. I walk him roughly six miles a day. They do require a lot of exercise. We just love huskies though. It's a shame that we can never let them off the leash. We usually take a brush with us when we go out. By the time we are done brushing Kai, the road looks like a burst pillow! People have asked us if there was a sheep loose!

Sadly I have no dog to walk anymore, Ladybird went home to live with her owner and my daughter. I use to walk her twice a day. Most days she would refuse to walk, she wanted to be driven to her favorite walking spot. She would run outside and sit next to my car, it was cute but concerned me greatly as she was over weight and really needed more exercise.
My daughter has been able to get her out more, not that she likes it. She walks her by the lake and they visit parks and the like. I know Ladybird is happy to be home. I am happy she is exercising more but I do miss my big little butterball.

My dog's a Tervuran Shepherd and he has a lot of hair too. We got him in South Carolina but he hates the heat. He would spend the entire day underneath the picnic table snoozing in the shade until the cool evening. I could never make him live in Florida... although he does like the beaches there, and alligator baiting hehehe.
Any town I live in though, has to be near a wilderness type area, because I don't like to make him stay on a leash - I like to let him chase squirrels and run around and sniff stuff. And I won't walk him in neighborhood type streets where people are so into picking up your dogs sh!t after him. I'm not gonna walk around with my dog on a leash and a plastic bag in my hand waiting for him to sh!t!! Jeez! Talk about ruining a good healthy walk!
One of the most beautiful scenes I ever came across was walking my dog in Maryland early one morning - which the only reason I was out so early was to beat the heat since I don't tolerate it any more than my dog does. Anyway, we were walking through a nature preserve type area that was just a couple of blocks from where I lived, and we had come upon a large pond when suddenly, into the serene silence came a quietly honking pair of geese, majestically appearing out of the mist on the far side of the pond, gliding smoothly down out of the sky for their silky magnificent landing on the still water right in front of me. Anytime I need to relax I just remember that scene.
We used to live down the street, hehehe, in fact it was the same street where I lived by the above mentioned preserve, anyway, right down the street was a couple who would walk their dog on a leash INSIDE their own completely fenced-in back yard. I guess they had their reasons.

when i was a little kid, i used to have a big dog. i don't know what it was called but our dog was named German. we don't usually walk our dogs in our country, we just let them out from the house by opening the gate and just let them wonder around anywhere they want. our dogs would just come back if they have done their busines. our dogs were pretty loyal to us that they would know when to come back at a specific time of the day.
