Can you buy a domain name permanently??

I was just wonderig if there was a way to buy a domain name permently, not just monthly or yearly.

The answer is NO.
The Governing body of Domain name is ICANN. And it has set up some rules regarding Domain name registration. And as per that a domain name should not be sold, instead the domain name can be owned for a maximum of 10 years and later on it has to be renewed in order to own it. You can register domains at ICANN accredited domain registrars and from domain resellers such as Tucktail.com [ site : http://www.tucktail.com/domain-name-search/ ] .

I don't think that's possible.. The system doesn't work that way..
But you could buy for many years ahead, like 100 years, so isn't that long enough? I mean noone's not going to live over 200 years right? But why would anyone want a domain name forever even when there not alive. Unless you're a company, that is..
