Kids and cellphones,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

What in the world is going on My sister comes over and she 2 older kids have cellphoned and they are only 11,9 and she said she was gonna get the 7 year old one too because it wasn't fair that he didn't have one.OMG!
I was just blown away with this,and I would never buy my 7,9,or 11 year old a cellphone,why do kids at these young ages have cellphones?Do you think children having cellphones is crazy?
Would you give your child a cellphone at a young age?if so please tell me why?
I think maybe if my daughter was responsible I would give her one maybe around 13 or so,but 7?

I can see no need for any teenager or child to have a cell phone. What do they need one for really? When they are at school parents can get in touch via the office and vise versa, so there is no need for one there. If they are at the mall there are pay phones, if they are at friends they should have a phone in the house, so where would they really have a need for a cell? I personally think people are becoming far too dependant on cell phones and the need to be in constant contact with everyone and anyone.
