Visit your doctor over the internet

On one of my clicking rounds this morning, I came across a website. Not to be named and not to be recommended by the way. Anyway, you got to have a consultation with a doctor over the internet and then they mail you a prescrption. They don't guarantee a prescription and it sounds like they make recommend you see a doctor personally for some things. I think when I first moved, I may have been very tempted to try to get one of my prescriptions filled this way. It would have been so much easier than trying to get into a new doctor within the first 30 days we were here. Is this the way of the future, doing all kinds of interactions over the internet? Webcams for examinations? haha. Anyway, would you try this and under what circumstances?

I think I could probably get help with my normal stuff, sometimes I just need a quick visit and refills on on scripts. I wonder if it would be too easy though and we would neglect going to the doctor - they do find other problems when we're there.

I don't think I'd like this idea. My preference is to visit the dr. so he knows exactly what is happening. To describe symptoms over the internet and chat back and forth I wouldn't think would be an accurate way to make a diagnosis. It might work for others but wouldn't be my choice.

Eeek! Yeah, I for one wouldn't feel at all comfortable with something like this. It's tough enough to get good care and attention (at times) from someone in the medical profession with them seeing four people every fifteen minutes. But to make it even more impersonal by doing it over the computer would never work for me.
I guess one thing that would concern me is if someone does have a legitimate medical complaint and they have a phobia of dr's and they opt to go this route for a diagnosis or advice. What happens if they are given bad advice or told not to be concerned with symptoms they have and they end up having something life threatening that could have been corrected with proper intervention?
And the whole exams by webcam? LOL! Yeah, that's a little too funky. But hey. It could take away some of that feeling of embarrassment of disrobing in front of someone. Tee hee!
Thanks for the discussion--I had no idea something like this existed. Hope you have a faboo day! *hugs*

The innumerable health sites can only be relied for assessing one's general health. Real diagnosis and cure come straight from a consultation with the physician.

No it is not something I would use, I even hate phone consultations as I dont think a dr can accuratly work out what is wrong without seeing someone well they did it once with my daughter despite me saying she was suffering with her ear they said oh no she be fine well she ended up with a perforated ear drum so she totally wasnt ok.
I have used the NHS direct line a couple of times here in the UK as they do give good advice but mostly say see your gp, il normally ring my gp and if they wont fit my child in that day I will take to hospital as I have been told to do. If its me I will wait 48 hours at the most depending on how I feel before going to the hospital instead if they refuse to fit me in which is quite common unfortunatly

I've had phone consultations with our insurance carrier. They invariably say go see the doctor, probably liability issues. I've been lucky to have doctors in the past that could fit us in, even though it meant long waiting times in the outer offices. Where I'm living now, we have tons of urgent care centers and it's common to go there since the doctors are quite busy.

I only use the INternet in searching for possible treatment if I am sick.. you know.. like when I had an endoscopy 2 months ago, i checked what result can I have.. you know... but I would never take prescription from a doctor online, may an advise would do but I prefer checking with the doctor personally and do some examination just to make sure.

If this is the new way of getting a doctor for consultation... then where is this world going to... i don't think that a lot of people will approve of this... even the government officials would think that this methos is so open to a lot of disadvantages... and those with bad intentions will surely take advantage of how they can fool this system...
So i vote no for webcam or internet consultations...

I don't think I would trust it too much. The prescription could be bad for you, as in other medicines you are on that gives a bad reaction and the doctor on the internet wouldn't know your history. Also do they charge you anything for the service? If so, it could be a scam and you could be wasting your money. I will never try any of these kinds of sites, but that's just my personal feelings and my opinion.

getting scripts filled at internet pharmacies is nothing. The three years we were without insurance that is how we filled my wife's birth control. We ordered a year and paid about $55 which was much better than $26 a month the cheapest local pharmacy carried it for. Use a respectable pharmacy and you are good to go.

I don't think something as sensitive as a doctor's visit can be done over the net, you don't know who else is watching you and there is a lack of privacy for sure, the doctor may not be able to see very well on the webcam and in turn diagnose incorrectly so i don't think doctor's would prefer this way either, I don't think that will be the way of the future at all
