We've all heard stories about people walking in to a grocery store and plunking down a few bucks for a cartful of groceries It's possible, said Stephanie Nelson, the "Coupon Mom." But it's not very practical. "I once got $100 worth of groceries for $1.95," said Nelson, who operates grocery-deals site The Coupon Mom http://www.couponmom.com/ and wrote "Greatest Secrets of the Coupon Mom." http://shopping.msn.com/prodlink.aspx?ptnrid=18&ptnrdata=24001&AltType=ISBN&AltValue=0976079127 But, she said, it was mostly toothbrushes, tomato sauce and other nonessential items. She couldn't feed her family on it. "I would have had to rush out to the store the next day." While some rabid couponers scour the Internet and even the dump to score free coupons and rebates, that's really not necessary, say Nelson and Teri Gault, operator of The Grocery Game. http://www.thegrocerygame.com/ The women agree that an investment of just 30 minutes a week and a Sunday newspaper will save most people hundreds of dollars each month. I gave it a try myself and cut my grocery bill by more than half in my first outing. I've heard about all these coupons and how you can get a lot of groceries with them. Unfortunately they don't have that system any more in the UK - well not to the extent that they have it in the USA and they certainly don't have it in Spain or here in the Dom Rep. More is the shame because in the DR there is a LOT of poverty and things are not cheap here. I would do anything to save on something and my BF is even worse than I am however I don't think I would go into someone else's garbage! That's taking the biscuit as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for sharing this with us - I am sure there are many out there in myLot who will really appreciate this link!

I can buy $100 of groceries for a few dollars and have real meals. One big advantage I have is my area doubles coupons, which means a $1.00 coupon is a $2.00 savings. Another great thing is my area has a coupon group, so I can get extra coupons of the best deals. I use free coupons often and send for rebates. I put my first daughter through 2 years of college, so completely disagree that rebates aren't necessary. We don't qualify for any kind of aid and can't see any reason to take out a college loan, if it can be prevented by doing rebates.
