Cousin getting married. What's the big deal?

Dad suddenly called back from work to tell mum my cousin (from his side of the family of course) is getting married.
What's the scoop?
Well, basically my cousin's the same age as me (22), still schooling AND i've never heard a thing prior about her being attached.
What's more?
She's marrying a foreigner (not really the point there) who's 40+ YEARS OLD. @.@ Go figure.
That's all I know for now, not much details as yet; probably have to wait for my dad to come home. But I sure got a big shock when i heard it. Yes, she may be old enough to marry. Yes, people do marry people who are much older. But there was NO INDICATION whatsoever before this AT ALL and my aunt (her mum) was even planning on a holiday trip in May, which she, of course, is trying to cancel right now. Some of you may think i'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but what are your thoughts on this?

yeah... that's what my mum thinks too... =X but there's no concrete confirmation as of now. I can't exactly go right up and ask them coz i dont' really see them that often and we're not that close. and anyway it sounds a bit rude. so yeah... everything i know is through my dad. oh, last i heard, the wedding will be in early may, which is pretty damn soon! i'm just wondering what is she going to do about school after that though... anyway, thanks for responding! :)

I know we dont see that as okay but some people it's fine. For me, age is nothing but a number. If they love each other than theres no problem. This type of thing is becoming more and more common. I have dated a guy who was almost 7 years older than me and I was only 16! I dont see a number when I love somebody. I am now married to the man of my dreams and I'm only 22. If she really loves this guy then good luck to her.

i do have aunts and uncles who also have age gaps in excess of 10 years between them and their spouse and i can understand that. but the thing that really shocked me was that we've never heard anything about her going steady with anyone and now suddenly she's getting married. well, like you said, if she really loves him then i guess we couldn't say much, except to wish her all the best. thanks for your response anyway! :)
