Now the slugs will soon be arriving to devour everything in sight....last year in the UK ...the slugs invaded and ate the majority of fresh young green shoots...
We tried many things....grit on the edge of the pots....crushed egg shells...apparently they dont like slithering over the shells....a cup of beer in which they were supposed to drown...
Ive no idea if any of you have the same trouble..but someone out there may have a fresh tip for me for this year...

Slugs are so disgusting, we do not have any plants in the garden at the moment, but when the weather warms up I always sit on my doorstep for a while of an evening and hundreds of slugs come crawling out of the wall and they seem to come towards me and it is just disgusting!! Last year, one gave birth in front of me.

No I just could not believe that it gave birth in front of me!! I cannot believe your granddaughter likes bugs that much, least of all slugs. The thought of picking one up just makes me shiver, I would pick it up with a stick to move it but not with my hands!!

Was there a moment where you were frantically boiling the water and ripping up towels for the babies????
Now my grandaughter loves nothing better than a good slug..the fatter the better.....and she gets an empty tub of some kind...and we have to join in...she lines the tub with greenery....to make a ..slungalow...and then after its `furnished` to her liking...she starts to collect her slug family....ohhh its orrible Rose........but we have to admire them....and praise her for looking after them so well....I think she is going to be an entomlogist....at least lol I think thats what a bug fanatic is called!!!

Try lint from the dryer. My problem has been reduced by my new croaking friends and they sure look well fed. I'm talking about frogs. One of my friends has ducks and he says his problem has been solved.

What is lint? English is not my native tounge and even if I usually understand enough to get a grip of things this "lint from the dryer" leaves me clueless! Anyone please help me out - I too have a terrible problem with slugs!

Lint is the loose pieces of clothing material that come off during drying and are caught in the trap of the dryer. Most people just throw away it away. Its the loose fuzzy pieces that come off sweaters also.

You have the same problem as I do what ever I put down they still seem to get over it. I put crushed egg shells down one year as they do not supposed to like to crawl over them and they had carefully removed some to form a clear path to the plant and it was gone.
Coffee grounds supposed to be good, I am trying this at the moment and also oat bran as it supposed to dry them out
Let us know what you are trying this year and if you have any success

Half a pound of slugs. Kept in slightly moist soil for two days to purge them. One garlic bulb. One onion. Salt and pepper to taste. Fry the garlic and onion. Add the slugs and fry for 5 minutes. Tastes like chicken. If I knew a surefire way to rid the garden of these pesky critters I'd be a millionaire by now (so that I could give it all away) and you'd be praising me down the garden centre. I have tried everything that I know. The most effective method bar none that I have found, is to go out in the late evening, preferably after a shower, with a yoghurt pot with about a quarter inch of salt and hand pick the things. Throw them in the salt and off they go to slug heaven.
