There are many ways to improve your memory. Dietary supplements and vitamins can boost your overall health, which in turn will increase your concentration ability, causing your memory to "run better". But I wouldn't suggest just going by a strangers advice about taking any type of medication. You should talk to your doctor before starting anything, because too much of something can cause problems, your goal should be an over-all balance.
Some non-med ways to improve your memory:
Crossword and word-search puzzles
Reading(short stories, news articles, novels)
number games such as fill-ins or sudoku
keeping a daily journal
writing down your thoughts or speaking them into recorder
learning an instrument
Learning a new skill (painting, wood carving, something "artsy")
Committing things to memory(poems, scriptures, phrases, quotes, songs)-this takes a lot of work, but I think helps the most. Just commit to spend a couple minutes a day, reading and reciting the piece you want to memorize. repeat it verbally several times, and write it out several times)
Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, there are physical barriers to building memory. If you feel its really a problem, out of your control, you should consider talking with your doctor. Short term memory loss is a symptom of several larger problems. Also, if nothing seems to help, make a habit of keeping a calendar or datebook handy any time you will be scheduling things. Write everything important down, either in the calendar, or on a bulletin board. Organize your papers, and important things in file folders, with clear labels for accessing later. Carry a recording device in your pocket, and make "mental" notes to yourself on the things you need to remember.
