a work experience and a big thank you

I work in a hospital as an Orderly/Attendant/Porter or whatever they are titled in your area.
I have just finished my shift and would like to relate an experience I had during this shift.
My job in an emergency is to support the medical staff by getting equipment or anything they need to the scene quickly.
Tonight an emergency was called in our Intensive care unit involving a very sick 6 month old child.
In between fetching anything needed I had the chance, no it was a priveledge, to observe the medical staff in action. The way they carried out their work quietly and efficiently (not like TV) was incredible and the battle to save the beautiful wee baby lasted for about three hours before it was then flown to a larger hospital. What people do not see is the huge emotional drain on these doctors and nurses.
They all seem calm and collected when the emergency is happening but when it is all over and things are settled, the tears often start to flow.
The team at my hospital did an incredible job giving this youngster a fighting chance and who knows what the final outcome will be.
At the larger hospital another medical team will continue the battle in a professional way and the tears will flow again when it ends (one way or another).
I'm sorry if I am rambling a bit on this one but everyone involved was affected in some way.
I guess what I am really trying to say is a BIG THANK YOU to medical staff everywhere for your skill and caring.
We get many complaints about our health systems in most places but as far as frontline staff go you really are SIMPLY THE BEST.
