Brushing teeth in the shower

Two co-workers and I were having a discussion about brushing our teeth in the shower and two out of three of us did. The one that didn't asked why we did and never tried it thought it was a crazy idea. She asked where we put our toothbrushes, and asked if shampoo ever got on it? We told her that we felt more refreshed when we brushed our teeth in the shower.
Do you prefer to brush your teeth before, after or during a shower?

I brush my teeth after my shower. I am not a fan of stepping on spit in the shower. I know, it gets washed down the drain but, if a shower really was a clean as people seem to think because everything gets washed down the drain then we wouldn't have to clean them every week, would we? LOL! Right! So, while you think that you are washing your toothpaste, spit and food particles down the drain and that no one will have to stand in it after you, you are sadly mistaken. Try not cleaning your shower for a few weeks...perhaps a month. See what grows. See how the toothpaste starts crusting up on the floor. Yuck! LOL!
I hope that I haven't offended you! It was not my intention! I was just voicing my opinion! It grosses me out!

I think i have brushed my teeth in the shower a total of one time. I know a friend that does it all the time, or atleast used to. I don't brush my teeth in the shower, there's never really been a place to keep the toothbrush. As for getting shampoo in it, I never did worry about that because it'd be easy to just wash it out of the toothbrush.
I usually brush my teeth after the shower.

I have a small bathroom and the sink/counter is right next to the tub. My toothpaste and toothbrush are in a cup on the counter within reach of both the tub and the sink so I can brush my teeth easily whenever I want to. Also, there is no need to worry about soap or shampoo getting on the toothbrush or in your mouth if you simply rinse before you brush, or brush before you wash. Why would you brush your teeth at the same time you are using the soap or shampoo anyway?

That's really cool. I think I did it a couple of times when there was no sink in the bathroom and I wanted to save time so I brush my teeth in the shower.
Most regularly, I brush my teeth right after eating when I'm at home. I can't stand to let the taste of my food stay in my mouth. I love the cool, fresh feeling after brushing.

My mother taught me to rinse with cold water and that is what I always used to do. Then one day I was having some tooth sensitivity to the cold water so I used lukewarm water. That is when I realized that we wash our bodies, our dishes, our clothes (some of them), and many other things with warm water, why not our teeth too? In my mind, warm water cleans better. The insides of our mouths are warm and brushing teeth with cold water can be painful if you have sensitive teeth and gums. I never use cold water anymore to brush my teeth and haven't for years. Once they are brushed, if I want to drink some, then it will be cold water.

One reason people brush their teeth in the mornings before they eat is so that they have washed that icky nighttime breath and scum out of their mouths...makes the breakfast taste that much better. So in that case, you just might be better off to brush twice in the mornings.

I've never, ever heard of anyone brushing their teeth in the shower until I got into college and then I found out that a few of my friends actually did that. I find it a strange practice but I actually think it would help people remember to brush their teeth because it's right there and it's easier to do everything at once. Maybe I should start trying to do that. I don't brush as often as I should.

When I'm in the shower I'm wet. If I get out of the shower and dry off, I get my face wet again when I brush my teeth. If I brush my teeth before I get in the shower, I can't decide if I should dry my face and then get in the shower.
So, I brush my teeth in the shower and get wet and toweled off once. I think it's a great way to save time and water!

Hi busta~
It is fun and timesaving to brush my teeth in the shower. Ever since I tried doing this I never when back to the old way which was brushing my teeth before my shower. Don't get me wrong though.. I brush my teeth twice a day and if I"m not having a shower at that time, then I'll brush them in the bathroom sink.
Thanks for your comment

i started doing this after my second son was born - i went from working 3rd shift to 2nd shift, my older son was in the first grade - just one little time-saving issue, i guess - and the habit just stuck.
as to the people grossing out about the spit - i do make sure that it is all down the drain, and i do a once over on the whole tub before i get out anyway.

I think there is nothing wrong about brushing your teeth anywhere as long as you spit it out down a drain. I love that it saves me time as well when I do brush my teeth in the shower and the refreshing feeling that it leaves from head to toe. I know people that try it once and stick with it just like you and I

I'm confused lol. You have to brush your teeth in cold water surely?! I really do prefer hot showers and cold water teeth brushing if given the choice. So yeah I brush my teeth after I shower - and have never actually considered doing it any other way. Maybe that's just me conforming and not thinking outside of the box, who knows.

Hi bojangles
If I'm going to take a shower I will just bring my toothbrush and toothpaste with me and give my teeth a brush after I wash my hair. If I just wake up in the morning I'll just use the sink with cool water. I prefer cool water to brush my teeth too, but if I"m in the shower then it's warm.

Hi chileman thanks for your comment~
I brush my teeth in the shower after I wash my hair and when I'm letting the conditioner soak in, I'll brush them then, after that I'll use my soap so it doesn't get in my toothbrush. I'm not sure why but I love the feeling of having a clean mouth before I use my soap and not after. I guess it has something to do with the saying being clean from head to toe so I start with my head and make my way down.

I think maybe once in my lifetime I had to brush my teeth in the kitchen sink because when we were getting our bathroom renovated we couldn't go in there so that's not too bad and it's totally understandable why you can't brush your teeth in the shower
thanks very much for your comment
