Does anyone feel that certain characters in movies such as even kid movies such as "Shrek" have a significance of meaning and refer to the reality things that are taking place in the world today. For instance, the cat playing the "pirate" or captain of his ship.

Basicly it is like the story of the ugly duckling. There is a moral to the story. A person who looks down upon his or her self becuase others do not find them perty or sexy. The person has self esteme issues. The issue behind this story is that the princess was scared that she would not be loved as a monster. she felt that she was a monster because the people of the vally refered to oagers as monsters. She felt that she would not find love but she did. Exceptance of herself as to who she was gave her the ability to find love.
