Do you give people the benefit of the doubt or do you jump to conclusions?

I posted to a discussion recently and I could tell that the writer was all hot and bothered about being judged by other people based on one incident. I purposely wrote a short comment back that really didn't say how I felt, but could be taken either way. The poster and others "assumed" and used words like "one of those people" and "over inflated ego". They proved my point. All people are capable of jumping to conclusions. Do you give people the benefit of the doubt or jump to conclusions?
