abuse in the world

I have read today that the rise of abuse in elderly is at a high. Why do you think that is? Seems to me since the ban on children's punishment was put on people turn to elderly people to bring out their fustrations. Do you think thats the case? If not what could cause a person to abuse a family member? That also raises the question of should the children's punishment law be lifted so that parents can "whip" their children when they get in trouble. Does positive reinforcement work? It seems now a days to many parents are forgiving of their children and let them get away with a lot of things. How do you punish teenagers, they can see through the whole positive reinforcement thing. You can set only so many boundaries. They also say that a lot of spousal abuse can or do usually lead to death or serious injury. Have any of you out there had any experience to that? What do you think we can do to stop spousal abuse? Why do you think guys or a girl could get into the mentality to hurt those who love them and they are suppose to love?

I think somewhere along the way we seem to have lost respect for life, compassion for others. The world has become a very selfish world with people only thinking of themselves and what they can get out of others, I often think it could have something to do with kids being brought up by others and not their parents during their young lives, I know parents have to go to work but it is the young years that children are really taught how to think and behave and a lot of children spend many hours of theday with a stranger and they are not receiving the compassion and love they are only getting a small amount from their parents after work, I was brought up with only my dad working so my mother who had very strong principals instilled them into us kids, we were never left with strangers..this is just my opinion as I think it is a way that was just not heard of in my childhood..just my opinion...
