I agree it sounds like a night terror, my eldest had them for a few months when she was 3 they are awful but she really will have had no idea what she was doing or what was going on. If she didnt remember what happened then it was a night terror not just a bad dream.
The best way if it continues is as they always happen around the same time each night go in and disturb her maybe 30 mins before it would happen this breaks the pattern it might take a few nights but this is the best way of stopping them.
Nothing you do will calm her during it im afraid I know its awful to watch but you are best to stay a short distance away keep an eye on her so she cant harm herself but also keeps her from hurtin you also and eventually they fall back to sleep, well so it seems with a night terror they arent actually awake.

This sounds like a night terror. My daughter used to have these a lot and my son has had a few. It's where they wake up screaming or crying and there's nothing you can do to calm them down. It's scary, but the thing is that they are really still asleep. You just have to wait it out and they will eventually be fine. There isn't a whole lot you can do, just make sure they don't hurt themselves. Good luck.
