Flea treatment products, Buy Retail or Veterinary?

I was wondering how many pet owners out there trust buying flea treatment products from the retail or grocery stores as opposed to through a veterinary hospital? Which products do you feel work the best? Cost?

I buy Interceptor thru my vet cause none of the stores around me sell it. I've tried the otc flea/tick drops but they didn't work, the flea infestation I had several years ago can atest to that. Hartz was the worst and I got my money back after calling and complaining about it. I'll never buy Hartz products again.
