My favorite literary piece are detective stories. Like those authored by John Grisham. Not only by how the storyline goes but because somehow it projects some truth happening in our society and how the author always injects certain solutions to it.
It is very suggestive type of detective somehow fictional story that will not only add a wake up call to the society but also a reality check of risks and consequences embodying those hated acts and intentions.
Whew! Aside from baguiocityonline.com that I was always giving some time, I was consumed by it until I found mylot. LOL.
Cheers! I'm glad to have caught your discussion in my overly 2000 plus mylot notifications. It's just me speakin' loud..

Kite Runner is my favourite piece of fiction. It's my favourite because it moved me. It was educational, and interesting, and I couldn't put it down. I think it was a little bit of all of those. Khaled Hosseini is a great writer, and portrays the character of his country (Afghanistan), the people, and culture.

nice! You like their works because of their aim/purpose of writing them. Literature thus reflects the society...it provides a way of interpreting and transforming the world. You will really learn something from them.
In poetry, i like "In a Station of the Metro" by Ezra Pound. Its just a two-line poem but is meaningful. You will not expect it to have those interpretations...
here's the poem:
IN A STATION OF THE METRO
"The apparition of these faces in the crowd
Petals on a wet balck bough."
it talks about the ironies of life!
