Isn't it illegal to hold your child back from school? I thought it was especually if you don't feel like taking them! One of my long time friends has this neighbor that has only had her child in school four times this whole year.. Yes four times!!!! I was on the phone with her today and I heard her son playing with this neighbor's kid who is only six years old. She told me that he's there everyday and I believe her because everytime she calls me this child is at her place playing with her son.(They are only one year apart). Apparently this girl has had three other children taken by child and family services and she hasn't learned yet.
When this child was five years old, my friend would come home from grocery shopping to her apartment and see this little kid sitting in the hallway waiting for her to get home so he could play with her son. Also when he was five, he was crossing the street by himself and she would watch him and just shake her head.
I asked her why she didn't call the school about this boy or call child and family services again so they could investigate it? It seems like my friend doesn't want to get involved as she said with the side of the law and I can hardly blame her in this case because things are not like they use to be and my friend could get seriously harmed and she has her son to worry about.
I also said this kid probably feels like she's his aunt and only family.
This appaules me and I don't understand why the school is not seeking reason for this?
As for this six year old's reading and writting skills, my friend said he can't read or write!
Why does God allow lousy people such as this to have children and the people who can't have children and get refused to adopt that are hard working good pure honest people? I just can't bring myself to understand this?

I believe it depends on the state, but I always have been told that children under 16 HAVE to be enrolled and attend school if they are of school age. Some grades - like Pre-K and sometimes Kinder - are optional.

That's interesting sedel.. this child is in kindergarten and he went to the same school as my son went to and if my son missed even one day, they would call. I'm just curious about what her excuses are. So far my friend told me that her excuse for her kid not going to school is because the neighbor couldn't walk him? Well I hope I never run into this woman when I'm visiting my friend because I don't think I"ll be able to hold myself back from telling her to get her lazy butt up off the couch and walk him herself! I can't wait to see what happens next year.
Sorry but this makes me very upset.
Thanks for writing

Anyways, if she has him enrolled and he misses more than X number of says (I think it is 10) then he will be held back.

Like everyone else has said, it depends on the state laws. Here a parent can keep a child home until they are 8 years old and they can leave school once they are 16.
This mom you're talking about could use some better parenting skills.

I don't know if all states have different rules to this or not but my school sends out papers at the beginning of hte year if your child misses so many days of school first you will be contacted and have to meet with the principal then if they miss anohter certain amount they will call the authoirites to come talk to you to see why your child is missing.
I know one thing I doubt if that child will pass kindgergarten and he will have to take it over again since he is not there as many days as needed. What kind of lazy parent does not get their child to school? I admit there are days I would rather not get up but I do it anyways for my child

Hi luvstochat thanks for responding. I don't know what kind of lazy parents does this to their children by not taking them to school. To me, education is so important and obviously the mother isn't educated? That's my guess anyhow. She's already had three children taken away by child and family services so you'de think they would keep a close eye on her? I think there should be more done in this kind of situation to be honest!

That's stupid. I will never understand how our socitey can allow these people to do this to their children. I will never understand this. I believe when it comes to something like this people should be investigated.
