Repeal the Gasoline Tax?

Just yesterday I noted that some senators were calling on the government to repeal the gasoline tax (currently about $0.45 per gallon) in order to stop the escalating prices from crippling the economy this summer.
That's all well and good. I fully support affordable gas prices, but why not force the oil executives to take a minor pay cut? I understand that the cost of oil is rising for several reasons, mainly the potential scarcity of oil and the weakening of the US dollar on the international market. These costs and concerns are passed on to the consumer while the executives continue to reap billions of dollars in profits.
What are your thoughts?

It would be nice to see the tax repealed but i don't see it happening. I could see them at least cutting it and that tax is only the federal one. There are also state taxes placed on them that could also be reduced.
I agree the oil companies should be held responsible. They are reporting record profits and we the consumer are paying the price for it. However in this case they have us over a barrel (full pun intended here). They know we need the gas to do things and we will pay the prices so why should they have to cut their profits?
Oil isn't scarce it's just a matter of our country limiting where we drill due to kowtowing to the special interest groups who are afraid of environmental impacts. We need to start using the oil we have available in the Gulf, Alaska, and the Dakotas and tell OPEC where to shove it. This would be ideal but until we are ready to let the oil companies expand here in the US it's not going to happen.

First the war has nothing to do with oil. So leave that out of it.
Second what you are suggesting doing with the horn is dangerous at best. You can cause accidents to happen. The horn is supposed to be a warning device not something to sound for protest reasons.
Third they have tried the "not buy gas" on certain days. The companies could care less. They know you will just buy it on another day.
Last but not least putting your email address in a post is against mylot guidelines. I suggest you look over them. "Post anything that discloses your personal information or others' personal information. We do not disclose it to anyone for good reason."
