I was thinking last night about the benefits of having the disease of addiction. That is as long as your in recovery. Of course addiction destroys many lives families and communities. In no way am I encouraging anyone to go use drugs or abuse alcohol. However the mind of an addict functions differently from that of a "normal" person's mind. There is not much thought or care to the future for an addict its all about instant gratification. This is insanity and stupidity however once realized there are many things one can do to change this behavior. I'm a specialist so I'll keep my opinions to myself on that. However I was thinking about the mind and how every downside of a situation must have and upside. Well If the addicted mind fails to look far into the future and is seeking instant gratification. Then it must serve well for the recovering addict to have more will and desire than the normal person to keep their life content in each and every moment. There for perhaps gaining more insight into true happiness which can only be experience in moments.

I've never thought of it like that. That's brings a really good point. Thank you for sharing.
