fresh tomatoes or pureed can of tomatoes?

The reason I asked this is, to me, the tomato puree available in cans tastes so much better in dishes with gravy than if we dice fresh tomatoes. I am usually a big fresh food fan, try to use fresh ingredients to the maximum, so much that even peas I try to get fresh. Tomato puree is however, a different story for me. As much as I appreciate fresh tomatoes, I use them for salads or to add to my veggies, but if I am making a dish that has tomato gravy, no way am I gonna put those fresh tomatoes, diced or even pureed. I love the canned tomato puree for its taste and color, both. Just curious if anybody else does the same?

I prefer tomato puree too as I am not a fan of tomato's and it does not really taste that much like tomato's it tastes more like tomato ketchup.

I agree entirely with you. I don't know if you have the same products available where you are but I tend to have fresh tomato for salads, tinned tomatoes (whole or chopped) for chunky sauces, passata (sieved tomatoes) for smooth sauces, and tomato puree for flavour. x

Hi there. We have access to fresh tomatoes, but most times for cooking I enjoy using canned ones, as the taste is alot more stronger then fresh tomatoes, my opinion anyway. Have a good one.

If I am going to use fresh tomatoes I want them out of the garden...not the store.....store bought taste different so if I am making something with a tomato sauce I like fresh tomatoes....but ripened in the sunshine.

I always use canned tomatoes for things that call for cooked tomatoes. I rarely make anything that has fresh tomatoes in it. I do not really like them.
