I'm talking about ridding pets of ear mites. My cats now hate me. They bite, scratch, and when all else fails, they hide. Not that I mind right now, though, because it's for their own good. I have heard that Wesson oil is good for the elimination of ear mites, so I've been treating my cats and my dog. It seems to be working for the cats, but it's hard to catch the little boogers because they know exactly why I want to "pet" them! The dog really doesn't care one way or the other, but he doesn't have mites as badly as the cats. I put the oil in, rub their ears for a minute, then they run away. Their ears used to be all crusty and gross, and now they're slimy and gross!! They both have always hated to have their ears rubbed, and now if I so much as brush past an ear, they practically go into convulsions! I know that, if left untreated, ear mites can cause deafness in animals. Anyone know how long I should continue putting the drops in their ears? How long does the slimy part last? How many drops per ear should I put, and how often? Has anyone else tried this with success? Do ear mites transfer to humans, or are my ears just itching in sympathy? Thanks, guys!

none of the oil type treatments worked for my cats.
i went to the vet and bought them "revolution".
3 drops on the scruff of the neck,no mites,no fights.
worked like a charm.

Just take a look at the picture of my cat in my avatar. It looks like he only has one ear, which is almost right. His right ear is now crimped and this was due to (technically speaking) ear mites.
I had always used the over the counter medicine for ear mites, fleas, ticks, etc... But due to my cat still scratching and being irritated by ear mites, he broke a blood vessel in his ear and almost lost it. The vet tried to straighten it, but the damage had already been done. It was just good that I got him there when I did before he bled too much.
I use revolution now which takes care of everything, literally. It only takes a small tube on the back of his neck and is usually still working in 2 months. It definitely beats vet bills and a grumpy cat. :)
