Did you get me right?...

If more than 90% or those who responded to your discussion did not get your idea right... do you blame them or rant about it?... or do you stop and think for a while that you must have phrased the sentences or words wrong...
I admit that there are times that some members do not read the discussion properly... but it should also be taken into consideration that not all members here are very well versed in English... or that we cannot always write our thoughts the way we want others to understand them...
So do you rant about it... or do you explain your point through the comments?...

When that happens to me, I go back and read what I said. I know there is a language barrier so if someone gives a good response regardless, I may answer their response - and there we go having a completely different discussion going . If the person is one I consider a decent member here and not a "one-liner", I don't even bother correcting or explaining. Okay, if I felt very strongly about the subject I might. And iff it's obvious that someone didn't bother to read or think about the discussion, why take the take to correct.

I see my typos up there. I don't know if I'd bother to take the time to respond nicely if someone misread my topic. What I would really like if it is a totally misdirected discussion, is a delete button for the whole discussion, which myLot won't give us. You know, for 90%, depending on the day for me, I might feel like a little rant.

I rarey have discussions that cause any kind of controversary. That includes non-english speaking people.
I ignore the english "error",so to speak, & try only to see what they are sayig. So non-english speaking people are not a problem.
What is the problem are narrow minded english speaking people, who can only see things from their point of view.

I agree... some people who are good at English can be a little narrow minded and inconsiderate about the others who would use the language... i am just glad that i rarely come across them... and that i rarely participate to their discussions... thanks for the response...

I enjoy seeing how different minds think different. Sometimes people misinterpret my discussions and I wouldn't mind. It's quite interesting to me that the responses could be so different. But sometimes people are like "way off" the discussions, I will try to explain more on my comments to them.

That is very nice of you... i also try to explain more throught the comments especially when the one who responded is like from a country that is just starting to use English... i am lucky that English is my second language... and i learned it since grade school... thanks for the response...

I would blame myself because it would seem that something is wrong with the way I tried to relay the topic. If 90% of the responses I got didn't get the point of my discussion, I don't think I'll try to correct them, but comment only on what they have said and understood.
Fortunately, I haven't experienced having a discussion where 90% of the responses didn't get it right. But I have received some responses that didn't quite touch on the main topic of my discussion. What I usually do is make a follow up question in the comment.
I hope I got this discussion right.

No, I don't rant about it. I think we need to be considerate of the facts you've stated. I had one today who seemed only to answer my heading, but I responded to him as though he was citing the whole discussion. He wasn't English and there's a chance he didn't understand what I was saying.
Brightest Blessings.

Same thing with this discussion... the one who responded before you... wrote only like three words... but i commented in a nice manner... this site is indeed too international and too diverse for us to get angry easily... thanks for the response...

I don't rant or even get annoyed about it...lol If someone seems to not get what I'm talking about then I will comment on their response and try to make myself more clear. Now if 90% of the people didn't get it...I think I had better put on my dunce cap and sit my sorry behind in the corner and think before I type...lol
Seriously though, it doesn't bother me, I know there are many people in mylot that are trying to learn English. I know it is a hard language to master...heck most of us speaking it haven't mastered it...lol I try to make my response very clear when I respond to a discussion that seems to be someone learning.
Blessed Be, Mari

What a very positive way of handling that situation... you know... for people just starting to learn English... being able to type a very simple English sentence is already an achievement... so here in mylot... that is what i always put in mind when i get such responses... thanks for the response...

I was going to start a discussion on this very topic yesterday. I answered a post and it was taken out of contexted. This as happened a couple of times to me. I found that each time this happened it was because I quickly answered the discussion without reading it after wards to make sure it said what I meant it to say. Do you ever do that?

It happened to me like last week... but it seems that only of of those who responded was able to get what the person meant... and i think that was because he read the whole discussion... the responses... and comments... well, i don't take it personally... thanks for the response...

It is frustrating when someone does not read the full original post to see what the writer is talking about. Then their answer doesn't make sense at all. Maybe they are in a hurry like me when I have answered a post but not thought it completely through or proof read what I was trying to say. I won't be making that mistake again.

Hello aseretdd,
I don't really think about this. Normally when I read the responses, I just read without thinking of whether they understood what I wrote or not. I am happy to get a response though it is not what I really want to hear sometimes. But definitely for sure, I won't rant. By the way, just want to ask you... did you get offended with some of the responses?

I don't really get offended with the responses.... only when twice when a certain member made a comment about a response i made... he made it a point to call me stupid... so i got offended... he did not even start the discussion... but i haven't encountered him for a long time now... i guess he got banned... thanks for the response...

i think that if 90% got some thing i said wrong i would definately sit back and think about how i phrased the question,as that is a high percentage.i agree that some people do not read the post properly and as you said they are not very well versed in english.i personally would not bother ranting about it.i would just move on and be a bit more careful how i worded some thing next time.cheers sue

i try to be nice as possible to them. i don't want to rant them because others are somewhat sensitive when it comes to their feelings. so the result, you'll get a fight. whenever they don't get the point on my topic i just explain it to them and tell them like this and that maybe they don't understand my topic very well, so their idea was different from others

I have dropped the thought of expecting everyone could get my point, but some still do. Since this site is full of members all over the world, I suspect that only a few could get to an accurate answer. With that, I'd just do my best to understand and catch their individual points of view/perspectives.
We are all here to enjoy, so I don't really mind much about it or make some ranting. But if you're to ask me, I am still disappointed with this things and those who never get to understand what we should be doing here.
I just do the best I could to explain what I meant through comments, I guess that's the best thing to do..

That is indeed the best thing to do... it is no use to get angry or rant about it since this is a site with diverse members... with different levels of English knowledge... tolerance and understanding is needed if one is to stay here long... thanks for the response...

If it was 90% of the people getting it wrong, I would definitely look over how I wrote the discussion to see what is misleading them. You can get mad at a couple of people if they misunderstood or just didn't read, but if most of the people responding are getting it wrong, it has to be the way you phrased your discussion. I would just try to explain the best I could in comments.

I dont rant about it unless someone has purposely ignore your question and started a discussion of there own to your response thats what annoy's me, To be honest i have not always understood what people are trying to say but then people do express themselves in different ways and even if the english isnt good its about understanding the question before you respond..x

Yes, it is important to understand the main question... but for some who are just starting to learn English... even a task as simple as this is very difficult for them... and they see mylot as a venue for them to practice and learn more of the language... thanks for the response...
