So does making money online with a program always involve "Referrals" ?

Just recently I have been pondering this question...It all came to me when I was surfing the net one day and seen a couple of ads going on in which where you could make some extra cash if you sign up with them. It starts to sound good then you enter your information to sign up with them and you end up getting a confirmation e-mail, Now once you click on that link in which it sends you to their website, You then start to navigate around & finding out later that in order for you to get some kind of "pay" or even "commisions" you need to have a "downline" or sometimes it says to just have 1 referral. I've been thinking about this more because of some of the programs I've signed up for like PTC and all those popular "make money now" sites which I have been active for awhile now but it still don't add up. Maybe I'm with the wrong programs? or I am doing it wrong? I don't know but I would appreciate any comments or ideas on this.

From my experience you have to have referrals in order to make money! It is very frustrating. I have gotten a few referrals to sites I belong to but they are not very active. I have found that the few times that I traded referrals with people that I have done well. Sometimes people will do referral exchange where I sign up on one of their sites under them and they sign up under me and we remind eachother to stay active LOL..this helps make a little bit more money.
