Man kicked, Beat toddler because hes 'not a morning person'
EASTON,Pa.- A man who admitted he beat his girlfriends 2 year old son offered an excuse that angered a judge: He said he's not a morning person.
Juan Arreola, 20, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts each of endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and simple assault. Prosecutors said while moving into a new apartment with his girlfriend on June 7, Arreola kicked her son out of the way, then squeezed the toddler's face.
While looking after the boy three days later, he punched the boy twice, prosecutors said, Arreola's girlfriend brought the child to a hospital later that day, where he was diagnosed with bleeding around the brain. Photos show the boy with severe bruising on his face and back.
When Northhampton County Judge F.P. Kimberly McFadden asked Arreola Friday if that's how he regularly treated 2-year-olds, he replied: "I was working till midnight. I'm not a morning person."
McFadden said she was almost speechless.
"You're going to look at me straight in the face and say "im not a morning person,?" she asked,
The judge ordered Arreola to undergo psychological and psychiatric evaluations and set sentencing for Dec. 14. The maximum penalty is a state prison term of more than 20 years.
Ok i know this is along time ago. But i was just going through and reading news articles and i found this and i was like how in the hell could you do that! What are your opinions on this?

Assault and battery!! It's even unlawful to attack, kick, beat up a fully grown person for no reason just because you're angry, irritated, or 'not a morning person'. Attacking and hurting a 2 year old child like this is just horrible - and makes no sense. The little boy was defenseless, what is he going to do, bite the guy in the hand?? Lock him up.... give him a 3 strikes type ruling where if he repeats this behavior at any time in the future, his sentencing could be for life.

i dont think he should have that luxury i think he should be in there along time i dont see how you could od that to a child. what if that child has mental problems , i know he is going to be scarred for life just remembering it. That is just stupid i cant believe he did that to that kid. UGH!

this is also the direct fault of the girlfriend for allowing such people near her child or children. yes this guy was not normal but i blame him and the mother/parents for not keeping this man away from a three year old.
i used to work this shift too..and my stepchildren would play loud music and wake me up to but the worst i did was turn the radio off..i think anyone who can control his emotions around anyone should be taken off the streets..for a long long time...i am not a morning person either but this is not even a defense..he was "high" or " just insane" but whatever..he belings in custody.

I don't understand it either. Clearly, he has anger management issues. I'm totally not a morning person eaither that doesn't mean I go about beating up kids who irritate me.

There are no excuses when you beat a child its wrong and disgusting and nothing can excuse that, "im not a morning person" is just the most pitiful thing ive ever heard.
Im not a morning person but my god thats not my childrens fault I find a better way of dealing with it is to get them both a drink and snuggle up on the sofa with them for 30 mins and watch some daft cartoons while I try and wake up a little

He obviously does not value life. I'm happy to hear he received the maximum sentance. That is the best excuse he could come up with? What about the fact that he has no problem beating children.....Max penalty well deserved, and depending who he meets inside, well..
