Did I act stupid in this incident ?

I was going somewhere early in the morning and i came to a signal which was automatic and red light was on signalling us to stop. But as it was very early in the morning there were no traffic policeman to control the traffic. Now as I stopped after seeing the red lights on, all the other vehicles passed by ignoring the red signal and taking advantage of the fact that no traffic policeman was there to question or stop them. Now I waited the full duration of the signal turning green and only then I moved on.
Now Plese tell me Did I acted as a stupid or was I right in following the traffic rules ? Or am I unfit for todays fast moving world ?

Following the traffic rules was completely the best way to go. The others who went against the light are ignorant and thoughtless. What if there was cross traffic? I think it is better safe than sorry as the old saying goes.

I think you did the correct thing..Just think about when they are going to install cameras to help the policemen patrol the area and take down model and license plate number of those vechicles that violate the law. Its not being done here yet but they are talking about it..Plus if my dad did something like that going without stopping my mom would tell him he commited a sin because he knows he would be breaking the law and he went ahead and did it anyhow she is always on to him about his speed because he has a lead foot...and we live in a very curvy place..well good luck and God Bless!
