I am having a hard time getting enough fiber in my diet. Admittedly it is my eating habits. I have a full time job and coach 2 sports teams and I let that get in the way of eating properly. I know it is an excuse buy please leave the nagging to my wife. LOL.
But I was wondering if there is any health benefits from fiber supplements. Does anyone have any experience with them? Or is there anyone who has found an easy way to get more fiber?
Thanks!

The easiest way ti sot make sure what you buy is high fiber - cereal, bread (you can get that with fiber added). There are also supplements like Benefiber.
health benefit: high fiber diets keep things moving in your digestive track and lower your risk of bowel cancer.

Nope, but I was thinking about buying it for my son.
One of the best - and cheapest - forms of fiber is beans. Another good source is apples.

Hey there Guardian,
This is just a 'habit' issue. And, it's really easy to work-around, with just the smallest committment.
Here's what I suggest:
Pick a day of the week, and assign ten minutes to cutting up fresh veggies. Cut up enough for the whole week, then put them in a Tupperware plastic tub in the fridge, with a little bit of water in it. Then, each day put a handful of the cut up veggies in a zip-loc baggie, and viola -- you've got the best kind of fiber at your fingertips.
Another really good suggestion is nuts. Same thing, put a handful of nuts in a plastic baggie. Then you've got nuts and fresh veggies, both terrific sources of fiber, at hand.
It won't be long before you start using individual plastic bowls or cups for the snacks. I have a supply of 2 oz plastic bowls, which ar perfect for nuts, raisins, yoghurt, etc...
I buy baby carrots, so that I don't have to cut them up. Celery is super easy to cut. I usually cut them into 4' lenghts.
Make sense?

Oops! I forgot to address your specific question about fiber pills.
I use Metamucil when I travel. Only because it's really hard to eat right when travelling.
Otherwise, I prefer to get my fiber by way of the food I eat.
One of the things to watch out for with fiber pills is to make sure that the intestines are not allowed to become lazy. Peristalsis is diminished when the intestines are allowed to become dependent on a pill to do the work of digestion, whether it's fiber or a laxative.

I guess I didn't realize the amount of fiber in vegatables. I have been trying to find fiber in other things and have been disappointed in the amount of fiber these food contain. though I am not a salad eater, I do love cooked veggies. But it sounds like I am going to have to eat raw one as well.
Thanks for the advise. And btw, I intend to get back to your other post later this afternoon. I have to take it is small doses. I am the kind of guy who needs to really understand something. I think I have my arms around the first part of that post and I am ready for the next parts.
Thanks again.

The new Benefiber is great it mixes in with anything you are drinking and you can not even tell it is there. Still that is not enough. One of the best and easiest ways is to eat an apple every day. No preparation required and they taste great, just grab and go. There are also so great Fiber One bars now, you can find them in the cereal aisle. They are tasty and have a nice amount of fiber. Also switching to high fiber cereal like Kashi Good Friends, it is not bad tasting. If you don't have time to sit down to a bowl of cereal throw some in a baggie and eat it plain, on your way to work, or on your way to practice.

Thanks ladym,
I didn't realize the benefits of an apple. I think I am going to try Benefiber, but I am still trying to digest all of this new information. So it may not be right away.
Thanks.
