I know we do not vaccinate against TB, but I remember being tested as a child for the disease. My son doesn't get tested at his yearly check ups. Do your kids get tested for TB?

You know, I remember my 18 y/o did, I think in middle school, but my older kids didn't..I did because I put in an application to work in a school, so definitely the staff gets tested.. So I think that, yeah, they do, but not until either middle or high school..

Really? I am 29. I remember getting tested when I was young, maybe up until the age of 9 or 10, then not after that.

Well my daughter is 18, that would make you 11 years older. I don't know, but if you were about 8 or 9, my daughter was 11 when she went into the middle school, and she needed the measle shot for that..So maybe they are putting those together now..I don't know, from having kids so far apart, I have also a 24,21 and a 5 y/o, I notice how vaccination's do change over the years...

I really don't think my kids have ever been tested for TB I know they had the vaccineations. I remember being a child and being tested for it then when I went to work for a nursing home they tested me before I could start work there. But I really don't think my kids have been tested I will have to ask my doctor about it at my daughters kindergraten physical.

My son has been vaccinated, but I don't think that they still vaccinate for TB in the US since it has been eradicated. I was just reading a story about how the world was suppose to be TB free by 2010. I doubt that will happen. They tried doing something similar with small pox, that didn't 100% work.

I think so. i am not sure if they do it at school or at the doctors office though. My daughter is 16 now so I am not really sure about it.

I remember getting tested for it as a kid, and I think even as late as when I went to college (1992). But beyond that, I don't know if they still test younger kids for it--I do know that immunization practices have changed over time, and so testing may have as well.

I am a bit younger than you, I graduated high school in 96. I don't even remember getting tested for TB after the age of 10. My son goes to the same pediatrician that I went to (he isn't that old; maybe in his 60's) and they don't do TB at all anymore.

Yes, both my boys, ages 9 and 10 have been tested. It is not required by their schools but is optional. Their doctor went ahead and did the testing. I work as a Registered Nurse so perhaps because of my job they would be at higher risk. I know they are now as I was recently exposed to an active TB patient. See my most recent post.

I'm not sure if they test anymore, but I hope so. I do know they stopped vaccinating for TB because it was thought to have been eradicated in this country. But TB and a few other diseases (such as Whooping Cough) has reared it's ugly head again in recent years. I, for one, would rather have my child vaccinated against TB than Chickenpox. We have gotten too over confident about these things.

We didn't get my son vaccinated against chicken pox. I thought that was a waste. I am glad I did not do it either. I don't know when the TB vaccine was stopped. I am pretty sure I have it. I doubt my son - he is 9 - does. I am pretty sure they still vaccinate for whopping cough though.
