Hi all, I have been working on mylot activly from last one month. Whenever i start a discussion and submit the tags. Then you will see similar dicussion posted by other mylot users.
The discussion may be of latest date or may not be, but i felt i should always search for the similar disscusion before posting any new one.
I tried but i was unable to, do you search for similar discussion before starting a new one? If "Yes" Please tell me how? If we dont have that option then mylot should add a search bar where we can find similar discussion with the help of keywords.
Enjoy Life

I don't when I just started but as time goes by and I slowly absorbed the mechanics here, I started to be more careful by searching first before I will start a new discussion! Since, I have seen, I got a number of posts which was posted already by other members! Good thing, there are number of people who still drop by.I learn from that mistake!

i do that sometimes and sometimes i dont ,the issue actually is that there is nothing new you can post that someone somewhere has not posted before the only difference may be the audience or the manner of presentation and the manner with which you approach the subject of your discussion

I used to check every time but it often happened that I could not find any similar posts until I had submitted the discussion. It happened so regularly that I eventually thought that it was rather pointless searching in vain.
I realise that it is the right thing to do, but without any success the incentive to do so simply fades.

Honestly I did not search similar discussion before creating the topic. I always wanted to start discussion on something that I can think of, and making sure that topic won't be bored or even something that won't be interested. I might start doing it and thanks for reminding me.

I try to see if someone else has already started a similar discussion. If it's been within the last month, I will respond to that discussion instead. If it's been longer than the last month, I will start my own. If no one has responded to that discussion in over a month, then chances are they won't even notice the addition of my response.

Also, to search for something similar, I use the search box at the top of the discussions page. Make sure that discussions is chosen directly above the search box and then type in the main topic; one or two words. Then scroll through what is returned and look for something similar. Sometimes you might have to switch up the words a little bit. Try using a thesaurus to find synonyms for your words to see if their are previous discussions using those words. Hope this helps!

I must admit that this is one thing that I always remember to do, after I have posted my discussion already!! I have recently however on a couple, remembered to do this which I was very pleased with myself about. I think that I have only posted one discussion that was really close to anothers discussion and that was when I first started, but I have been lucky in that most of mine have not really had too many exactly the same. One time I think me and one of my friends started a discussion about the same topic but all in different wording so that was not too bad, but it was a bit strange how we both did it!!

Actually,I don't!
Well, sometimes I may propose a topic similar to others',however, the way of expression or the point of view may be quite different. So,I just let it go.
Beside, some similar topics are proposed maybe several monthes ago,so they may sink or so,then,a new similar topic is quite OK for my view.

I haven't searched before yet - I guess I just figured that if there was a more popular one then mine would be ignored and no harm would be done!
I agree yogeshdusa that a search bar for keywords for discussions would be very helpful indeed!
