Here in my place, there has been squabbles lately over rice shortage. In the papers, you could also see pictures of people lining up for food. What can you say on this? Are you experiencing food crisis in your place as well? I pray that people all over the world would be able to overcome this problem. I pray that nobody goes hungry and we will all have enough food for the whole world.

I don't know it it's food crisis or rice shortage we had. I saw people lining up the stores to buy NFA just because it's much cheaper than commercial rice. The price soars to high heavens but there are still rice, no shortage at all. The shortage is all in the sick mind of those up there to cover up big issues - you know what i mean, don't you? My mother in law in the province worried about her grandchildren here after she saw the news on rice shortage and lo! and behold! she send us a cavan of rice, and more to follow. They have so much harvest there and she can't understand that shortage in tv neither do i.

You must be living in the Philippines too. I couldn't agree more. I believe that it is just some media hype to cover up some other critical issues. If you have been to Mindanao, you'll be amazed by the rich agricultural lands there so abundant with food and rice and crops. I think we also need to decongest Metro Manila, develop the rural areas so that people will stop flocking to urban areas, don't you agree?

I believe there is really no shortage, it's just the way of the government to steer away from the real problem. Look at what happened, no more news about Lozada.

Oh you are back. I haven't seen you in a while. I guess you are right. I just hope that the media do not conspire with the government especially in critical issues such as food. I mean, media have the responsibility to tell the people the truth, don't they?

there are no food crises and believe in it, it is just a chaotic way of diverting issues that somehow people would be afraid of the situation and focus on survival rather than on political issues related to the president. this is an age old formula in every government.

Does that mean the media are being used by the government to cover up, or are the media setting the agenda? what do you think?

Hello,inday312! The world is now experiencing shortage of food grains and the worst hit are the poor and the middle class people.the agricultural productions have slowed down since 2005 and for this we are responsible.we have diverted most of our agricultural lands for nonagricultural use, some for big industries and some for irrigation projects and others for habitations.besides,we have reduced the size of the forests to hardly 25% of the geographical area, for which the climate of the world has changed and has affected the productivity.on the other hand the population is in the increasing trend.so the shortage of food stuff all over the world.if the process continues unabated within 2050 the world would experience severe food crisis and there will be famines in some countries even.so it is the duty of the policy makers and the scientists to work out plans for feeding the teeming millions or there will be civil wars all over the world.thank you.

i really think there is a crisis on food.. but there is no real food shortage.. what we have is mismanagement of food.. there are food going to waste because of high commdity prices for transport, etc... but then in time, we will have a real crisis if you don't start managing our resources...

i guess, there is really a worldwide food crisis. we all hear it from the news, every where. here in the philippines, it is not that bad, with regards to rice supply. we have the production. i guess the government is really, really just trying to cover-up some thing...

Yes, indeed. Our relatives from the provinces tell us they have an abundant supply of rice and they even send us a sack after every harvest. So I am really wondering why the media make it appear as though one cannot find rice in the market anymore. The media indeed can really set the agenda, you know.
