Do you clean your house/flat before your friend/friends are coming round?
And what do you offer to your visitor/s?
Do you just offer cup of tea/coffee/water or do you also put something on the table?
I think it's a cultural thing.
In Czech republic where Im from this is how you are raised.
Would be interesting to know what other people do ;-)

Yes, it is required for us to clean our house when someone visits. My mom will be so furious if we didn't clean our house especially when there is a visitor. I always have cold ice water and ice tea for drinks and some bread for our visitor.

If people give warning they are coming then I will tidy up a little if they just turn up then they should realise that they have to take things how they are and if they dont like it im happy to show them where the cleaning items are :P
Il offer drinks but not normally food unless it is a meal time.

I will try to tidy up before anyone comes over. Depending on who is coming over I will offer some kind of drink. I was brought up to be a good host, so to speak, and I try to stick by it. When we would have a gathering, i'm always the last person to get anything. I make sure everyone has all the things they need.

I always clean the house and make it look perfect before anyone visits, unless if they are my best frends and come unexpectedly.. I usually offer them whatever I have in the house.. Whatever I might enjoy eating at that time... or if they say they don't want to have anything, I would just put some things on the table so that they can take if they like
