its a small town and everyone knows your business

Hi! I cannot explain why people are like that. It seems to be a malady that cuts across every level of society. But when this topic crops up, I am reminded of a story told to us when I was ten years old: There was a woman who came to confession over a transgression involving her spreading gossip about her friend. "Okay", the priest-confessor said, "for your penance, come back with a pillow." The woman did, and the priest brought her up to the church tower, and told her to rip up the pillow and pour the contents out of the window. She did and the wisps of cotton promptly scatterd in every direction. "Now", said the priest, "go back down, gather all those contents and put it all back into the case you have". "But Father, that's impossible!", she remonstrated. "Yes," answered the priest. "And that is what you have done to your friend's name and reputation." Happy mylotting!

i live one of those towns. it's because it's a small town,and they have nothing better to do than gossip.some people just enjoy messing with other people.

I suppose because when it is a small place you are more likely to see everything that people do and if it is that small there might not be much else to keep them amused and everyone knows each other so will know who they are talking about and it ends up as a huge gossiping chat!
