Im a long time asthma suffere. Check out www.medscape.com/viewarticle/446396_7 for info about asthma remission.
What is says, in a nutshell, is that symptoms may cease, even for a period of years. However, it never really goes away. You are always "at risk".

I was diagnosed with asthma at about the same time that we got our first cat when I was about four or five, I think, maybe younger. We used to have a dog, but never really had any problem with her. But, when we got the cat, I started getting too sick. I still have it, too, today. Allergy shots didn't help at all, either. But, today my asthma is pretty much in control and one wouldn't know that I ever had it unless they checked my lung capacity. I exercise all the time, too.

Hi gloamglozer! I don't have asthma but my husband does. He has it when he was a kid but now that he is older, he never had any asthma attacks anymore. The last asthma attack he had was ten years ago. I am hoping he won't have any attacks anymore because it really pains me to see him suffering. And I hope you would recover from it soon. Just my thoughts dear friend! Take care and have a nice day!

I was diagnosed with asthma when I was ten. They said it was childhood asthma, that sometimes goes away. Well, we all know now that asthma does not go away. When I was 13 my doc said it wasn't asthma, instead I had chronic bronchitis. Now that I"m an adult, when I was about 22 or 23, my doc said I have both. I don't have a serious case of either, they only flare up with my allergies or extreme conditions. I guess I'm pretty lucky.
My daughter has had breathing issues since she was 6 months old. She's been hospitalized several times. The second time she was hospitalized at 16 months, they said it was asthma. Now that she is 9, we finally have a doctor willing to treat her with a proactive approach instead of a reactive approach. She's on medication for her allergies, has a prescription for her inhaler and plenty of nebulizer medicine. Hopefully we can get it under control and not have to ever be hospitalized again.

The doctors also diagnosed me wrong when i was and my mum kept trying to convince them that i have asthma but they said it was like a cough or something and that it would go away. Later on they said it was asthma at which i had already had an asthma attack i think. Someetimes i wonder if doctors even care about people.

i first started having symptoms last April and was finally diagnosed in Last August. I am 27 years old and never knew Asthma was something you could develop. i always thought you either had it as a kid or you didn't have it. I guess I know better now!

I've had asthma since age 10 or 11 and it got worse through high school.
I was able to manage it better in my twenties with medication and exercise. I have been needing medicine less and less, but it still makes for complications when I get, say, the flu.

Same with me, when i have hayfever it makes my asthma worse. Its horrible! all the symptoms of itchy eyes and nose and a runny nose but ALSO on top of that difficulty in breathing. I find that everytime i get asthma and get hayfever symptoms that i get an itchy throat as well :s
Ive tried to get rid of the allergies and took needles for 3 years and a bit but it didnt work and my mum stopped me from taking them coz she was a bit concerned about me being in pain and not getting any results from it.
