Do you love it or hate it? I have used it for about a year. I am OVER it.. It is slower than DSL at time. They have this thing called Fair Access Policy where if you exceed your bandwith "limit" they knock you down to slower than dial-up speed. It can take FOREVER for a video to load. There always seems to be some type of uplink or RTT problem. I am so sick of it. The customer "service" is in India. You can barely understand what they are saying (no offense to my mylotters that live in India.. I am just ranting ) I am ready to go to DSL.. Anyone else have the same type of problems with hughesnet?

I have not used them. Out where I live you have 2 choices. WildBlue or HughesNet. We have WildBlue. I had considered switching to HughesNet after having so many problems with our WildBlue service, but they wanted like $500 to install the stuff.

That's funny because I have also considered switching to Wildblue. I am still thinking about whether or not I am ready to give up hugesnet. I think I am still stuck in a stupid contract.. Thanks for responding

I don't think I can get Verizon where I live, but that you for offering your experience.. I went from dial up to satellite and all was well until they changed their policy

I have had Hughesnet for about 6 months now and I don't like it at all. Before I moved, I had DSL and it was so fast. Now I keep getting RTT and uplink problems. I just checked my speed and it's only 80 kbps. I'm on the home plan and I'm supposed to get "up to" 700 kbps. But that's where they get you...with the "up to" part. Oh and I hate the Fair Access Policy. It's not fair at all. I can't watch videos, or even instant movies on Netflix...Well I guess I could, between the hours of 2-5 am (the only times the FAP is not in effect) but I'm rarely up at that time. I hope that they get DSL out where I am in the next few months..And as far as the customer service goes, my opinion is that if it is an American company, they should have Americans working in customer service.

OMG you have said it all! I just upgraded to the home pro plan, so now we can do a tad bit more without violating FAP.. which is retarded. About their customer service, I have a hard time believing I am speaking to "jessica" or "paul" You know what I mean dontcha! Thank you for weighing in and sharing your similar experiences. I also CONSTANTLY have RTT and uplinking (among other) issues

Oh wow this is my only option besides dial up where we live. I always though Hughesnet would be great. It is very expensive and that is why we are still on dial up. I wish they would hurry up and get DSL where we live. :)

Well I will definitely try it once I can afford it but it is too expensive right now. I hope I have a better experience. I think anything is better than dial up. :)

well.. like everything.. different people have different experiences.. maybe its because of my location, maybe its because 4 people share the connection. It is 800% better than dial-up. Maybe your experience will be different

No, I don't use it. It sounds like their service is bad. Well, I have to use dialup because of various reasons, most importantly it's the cheapest, and the second most important reason is because it's not my house, and they won't permit me to get DSL or cable becuase people will have to come in and install or upgrade our stuff (our phone lines are very old...so they would have to do that for DSL). It's too bad that your satellite isn't working well for you. I have heard of them, and was going to consider them because it seemed like a good solution, but they wanted far too much money! It seemed like it wouldn't be much faster than dial up and for less than $10 a month..I can't complain with what I have (but it is annoying sometimes if I want to see a video). Pablo
