banc bites

The latest e-mail affliction has been given a name: banc. Unlike spam, which is unsolicited e-mails, bacn is the kind of e-mail you have signed yo for think newsletters, mailing lists, reminders and special offers - but do not necessarily want to read right now, or maybe ever. Hmmm, perhaps it should be called self-inflicted spam. Keep posting, Mickey

This is a term that I have not heard before, but we have all experienced the flood of mails from sites that we have registered with. Many sites either do not allow you to continue without accepting newsletters etcetera, or have the option ticked by default so that many people will not realise and agree to them. They do not totally constitute spam since they are by choice, but the result is just the same.

I do know what this is but I did not know its name. I have signed up for things, usually because I had an incentive to do so, or I genuinely thought the site had something to offer me. As a result my inbox gets filled with offers and newsletters. Some of the newletters are really of interest to me, but anything else gets deleted unread. There should be a link in every email which allows you to unsubscribe but I do get some that don't have any way to cancel the emails. I think that is very bad.
