How to develop interest in a subjects you don't like?

My major is bioengineering and I am a senior now. I spend almost everyday in the lab. At first, I'm very exciting about my research project. I referred to nearly all documents relative to my programme and designed the research strategy with great passion. However, after more than 1 month work in the lab without any progress, I am totally exhausted. I found I am not a lab person. I am careless and inpatient. And lab work can be infuenced by tons of factors, which drives me crazy!! Then, I went to work at media company. It's more fun. To deal with people not experiment makes my very happy. Moreover, I can achieve a little bit with my work everyday which makes me feel great. So I wanna give up what I learned in university, and begin a fresh new start. Is it too early to give up? Do you have any suggestions? After all, I have spent 4 years studying bioengineering. Is it totally a waste of time? Please feel free to criticize!!

I think that you might as well complete your education since you have put a lot of work into it. Don't give up at the first hurdle, you will probably regret throwing it away. Once you have finished your education and if you are still not wanting to go into that area than fair enough at least you still have the education to fall back on if you change your mind.

thanks for your kind advice. My parents put great emphasis on education and push me to finish it. well they maybe right, you know, they have a lot more experience than i do. Thank you for sharing your opinion

I think they might be doing it because if you did not complete it then you will have wasted that last few years of your education on your course with nothing to show for it.

Well..always give some time and live it up for those even that not amuse you. Try to do the thingd which you don't like atleast for sometime. It develops some thing in you to have patience and do the things very well. But at the same time dont try to do things which completely you dislike. Its upto the individual on how to cope up! cheers and best of luck

If you are not enjoying what you are doing then I suggest you change course. Sometimes if we don't enjoy things we do we fail on it more and it doesn't give us enjoyment and fulfillment. Think of the best course you think you would enjoy, you could use in the future and something you think will be good for you before it's too late to change.

It is said that everyday before start to work on the subject you do not enjoy, you just sincerely tell yourself that "I like the subject",and then after 21 days(I could not remember the exact day,but no more than 1 month),you would find yourself really enjoy it.I have never tried it before, maybe you can have a try if you do not want to drop the major ...

Well this is definitely something to think about. It sounds like you liked the preparation part, but not so much actually putting it into practice. Sometimes the best way to learn about ourselves and what really makes us happy is through trial and error. I would recommend that since you are already a senior to go ahead and finish your studies in bioengineering. Then if you do want to go into another career you can straight to a specific program built for that. And you don't have to give up what you learned. Maybe find a way to take what you already know and use to help you in your new field. Definitely think very hard about it, though.

I think you shouldn't let time do the job, he might come to late and if you are 100% sure you don't like you major you better leave as soon as possible, but again only if you're 100% sure. Think of what made you first choose the major? the money you can earn if you worked at that job, you liked that job or you just wanted a long named and smart sounding major. Remember that what you choose to major in will probably be your job for the rest of your life(unless you do some other job that doesn't require a diploma).

well, it's very complicated that i like and hate my major at the same time. why i wanna give up my major is that i am not right to it. i probably can't go to the top in the area. although ,i'm not 100% sure. maybe, all i need is some confindence

that's a real pickle... Go with what you like and remember that's what you'll do for the rest of your life that's my advice...

You never know what the future holds, so you never know when you may be able to use what you learned. Also, it is better to make that change now than when you have 10 or 15 years in that field.
