NBA playoff system

Does anyone here think that the NBA playoff system needs to be reworked where the best 16 records make the playoffs, regardless of record? It's s dumb that the sub-.500 Hawks are in while the 49 win Warriors are out. Everyone in the West who was in playoff contention was a title contender.

hi BuckeyeCub, first of all, i've rated this discussion a positive (+). Secondly, it is because this post really a good question to be raised out. I have the same feeling too, "why not letting the best 16 teams go into playoff rather than dividing them into East and West?".
However, after spending sometime thinking, i myself have reject this idea too. It is because, when NBA teams are separated into few divisions, local fans are also divided into few divisions. And it actually make up an excitement throughout the entire US country, rather than only one WEST part of US fans are enjoying the game. I think this is the main reason why David Stern don't change the system.
