So, how many of you women mow your own lawns??

I was out yesterday afternoon mowing my lawn and thought this might make a good discussion. I really enjoy mowing my lawn, or I should say, weeds, and wondered if I am a little nuts or if other people enjoy mowing their lawns. I have to admit, I do have a riding lawn mower, but I also have a lot of grass to mow. It is so nice to see my grass all mowed and neat and tidy. And the funny thing is is that I am a terrible house keeper. So, do you women or men too, mow your lawns and do you enjoy it??

Yes Marg, I mow my lawn, and I quite enjoy doing it - I like to see the finished product when it's all nice and short and tidy! Hubby and I have a deal - I do our back lawn as it's flat, and my hubby does the front because it's on an incline! (I find that a bit hard for me. It's surprising the amount of women who mow their lawns, even when there's a man in the house - have you noticed that?

Oh, good Abbey, glad to hear that you like to mow grass too. What a good deal you have with your hubby. Sounds good to me to do the flat stuff, that up and down hill is hard to do. Thanks so much for responding.

I do not mow my own lawn.My husband does all the yard work.I rather clean the house.A riding lawn mower is great. Maybe one day my husband will own one.And it's great that you are proud of your yard. Happy mowing.

Thanks Christie for responding. And if your thing is the house, that is fine too. I hate to clean the house and would much rather work in my yard. I have no idea why, but that is the way it is.

I wish I could mow the lawn. I would purchase one of the rotary mowers to do it with. The unfortunate thing is that I am allergic to freshly mowed grass.

Sorry to hear that you are allergic. Can't be much fun for you to be outside in the nice weather. That is really too bad.

I enjoy mowing my yard. I wont say lawn because it's mostly weed. I have a huge back yard where my goats graze and a big front yard. Like you, I love to see it looking freshly mowed and tidy. Green is nice too.

I am the same as you, my yard is all weeds. Sometimes all wild onions and guess you can imagine what that smells like. Goats are not allowed in my yard, they would eat everything except what I need them to eat.

My hubby used to mow our lawn but, now we have someone do it for us. After the hubby got stung 15 times by a bunch of bees after he mowed over their nest or whatever, he pretty much got disenchanted with lawn work. Plus, it gets really hot in Georgia during the summer. Why not let someone whose job it is, deal with it! LOL! We pay him, he is happy to do it! Problem solved. And, no...the hubby did not enjoy it when he did it. LOL!

Oh..I forgot to tell you, we have somewhere, I think, just under a quarter of an acre of land and a walking lawn mover. So, that made it even more work for the hubby. We couldn't have a riding lawn mower either because we don't have anywhere to put one. Only a two car garage which is barely big enough to fit his Accord, my Pilot, his Harley and the walking lawn mower. LOL!

I used to mow the lawn. Then I decided to get my man to do it. He has back problems so it is hard for him but I keep the machine in running order and gas in it and he takes his time.

I use to mow the lawn when I was a kid but I can't know that I'm older since my allergies have gotten increasingly bad since way back then..

Sorry you have allergies. That would make it hard to enjoy mowing the grass. It is funny how allergies do get worse, the older we get.

Last Friday, I got out there and mowed. I don't have a riding lawn mower, so it took me 3 hours minus, the times I had to stop to get something to drink, take my youngest to my neighbor to watch. I wish I had a riding mower, would make it quicker and less painful. I like getting outside and working with my hands. Make matters worse, last year I broke the weed eater, so I have to trim with a pair of edging scissors, but with them I get a straight edge. I shouldn't have to mow again until next week. Funny, how I can mow with no problem, but my husband complains. I guess it's from him going from a small yard when he was younger to a bigger one now. For me my yard now is smaller and even then I mowed with a push mower. It helps with getting a tan and losing weight, when I have to mow up hill. The hill is to steep for a riding mower, because as your going down, you actually pick up speed,.

I have cut our lawn on many occassions. It is relatively flat and I don't mind doing it at all. It is actually very good exercise for me and probably burns a great deal of calories! If I were a person who could get a suntan, it would be a great time to get some sun too, however I burn and must lather on sunscreen or mow after the sun goes down. I remember the first time I mowed our lawn in this neighborhood after relocating here from another state, the neighbors were all watching out their windows and one lady actually came over to 'chat' and ended up saying, "Can't your husband do that?" I told her that he and I didn't have 'male' and 'female' chores...we each did whatever needed to be done! She shut up very quickly!

I do mow my own lawn, and I have terrible allergies. No riding mower here, a propelled one though. It mulches or picks up the grass. Depends how long I let it get before mowing if I bag it or mulch it. I take my allergy meds and get to work. I can't say I enjoy it, but it is great exercise!! PEACE

When I was living in a house, I did all the yard work. I enjoyed it a lot and wouldn't let my husband do it. I worked in the garden and mowed the lawn and took care of the flowers. I miss it now. I am looking to rent a house for June 1st so I can have a yard again to work in. I find it a stress reliever and love the outdoors. I also love the food I get out of my garden and I reaaly miss that too. It's also really good exercise to mow your lawn, although sitting on a riding lawnmower isn't much exercies but since you enjoy doing it, continue to do so. I say good for you for doing it.

I do mow part of the lawn.. My hubby uses the riding mower on the biggest part of the yard, (we have a bit over 1 acre to mow) and I use the push mower on the smaller sections.. I did mow the entire yard one day, when he left for work at 7:30, I started and didn't finish until 11:30.. I am no spring chick, just turned 60 last December, and it nearly killed me.. I was fortunate enough to come in and take a long hot shower, so I believe that the hot water worked wonders for the aching muscles that I thought I would have but never did.. I enjoy mowing but as I said, in much smaller sections.. I do also love the way the yard looks and the way the new mown grass smells.. Happy mowing everyone..

All the women in my extended family mow our own lawns. The men do the heavy stuff, like hauling trash. The only exception is my son, who is single. He inherited his mother and grandmother's love of mowing. If I had my husband mow the lawn, he'd just hit the high spots and call it good enough, but I enjoy having the fast results of mowing. And it is rewarding to see a beautifully finished lawn. Oh, now that my husband is a heart patient, my grandsons do the hauling for us.

Nope I don't we live in a trailer park and they pay someone else to do it. After we move, my hubby or my soon to be son in law will do it. I can't because I am very allergic to that (smell of it). I can't wait to have a yard to plant flowers, veggies, etc. I will have to wait untill next year for some of the planting, but I will get a little in

Sounds like we are 2 peas in a pod, Marg. I hate housework and put it off long as I can but yet can't wait to get out and do yard work. I have a rider as well and an acre lot to mow. I love doing it as well as trimming the tall grass/weeds where the mower can't go.

I used to mow my parents when I was growing up. They had a huge yard too and I hated it! We've got a tiny back yard right now and I had just brought it back to life at the end of the summer last year. It has not been mowed yet but is in desperate need of a cutting. Considering my husband is gone for seven months, I think I'm going to have to break down and mow it myself. If he were here though, I would make him mow it!

mowing the lawn - hubby and I both do it.
My hubby and I both mow our lawn. It's not a hard job at all and I don't mind helping him out when I have nothing else to do or if something I'm doing can wait a bit longer to finish. I'm not crazy about cutting grass but I'm not down on it either. It's a chore that needs doing and we do it.

I used to always mow the lawns, and I hated it. I suffer with hayfever too so it can be a real nightmare for me, but if it needed to be done then I had no choice. I was so glad when we moved to our new house and saw that the garden has no lawns whatsoever, you have no idea of how wonderful that is, no hayfever from it either, bliss!!
