Does ice cold milk quench your thirst?

Milk and Cookies - This kid looks like he loves his milk and cookies, but as he was English, probably not!

I normally like diluted fruit juice when I'm thirsty, but today, my bottle of fruit juice was in my bag having returned from a cycle journey to a local town which left me "one of those thirsts" as the French say, and I was forced to drink from a litre bottle of milk, and boy did it taste good. Better than fruit juice I'd say, in fact, better than anything. Do you agree? Does milk really hit that spot when you're thirsty?

Hello Carl! Ice cold milk is great for quenching the thrist. The only time I find that it leaves that sticky yucky feeling is in the summertime. I would rather have water than any other beverage in the summertime. My hubby on the other hand prefers to drink milk in the summer. We go through a lot of milk in the summer months due to him drinking it more.

Hi EB! Good to hear from you. I normally prefer fruit juice in the summer. Warm milk would be pretty yucky in the summer! It would have to be ice cold.

I enjoy fruit juices too, but tend to drink them in the evening.

water works fine for me. I love to drink a cold water when i am really thirsty. I finish about half a litre when i come back from my walks in the evening. Cold milk is good too for people who have acidity problems. ~pinks~

I really like cold water or unsweetened tea when thirsty. Milk satisfies in a different way, and I feel like it does a lot to prevent hunger and give me energy.

I have to wait for my energy lifts. Sometimes they never come, even after several cups of tea or coffee.

It doesn't have too much taste it's true. I almost never drink water for that very reason. And prefer sweet fuit juice when really thirsty. However, not having any in the house some time ago I drank cold milk instead, and it was just delicious. Nectar. Not that I've drunk it since. I am on apple and blackcurrent juice right now. Hmmm...I feel a thirst coming on.

Blackcurrants contain a form of sugar called fructose, although in their natural state they are more sour than sweet 'tis true. But blackcurrant juice is invariably sweet; I mean the form that is drunk over here in Blighty (Britain) which is the "Dilute to taste" variety. There is a famous type called Ribena. I'm not sure if it is available in the US. I always wondered why you could only taste it if you diluted it! It's like "Sugar to taste"...can you not taste it without sugaring it. Till I figured out that "to taste" means...to suit your taste. Funny how these things dawn on you.

Yes. I used to not drink milk very often but these days I am drinking more of it. My husband cannot go one day without it. I drink milk for my health and it is also good for heartburn too. I had some this morning also because I was thirsty.

Ice cold water certainly does the trick, but I have to admit I haven't drunk it to quench my thirst for absolutely ages. Perhaps I've never been thirsty enough, which is lucky...:o)

There is nothing more I enjoy than a nice glass of ice cold milk when im feeling thirsty, for me, it does hit the spot, very much so. Just don't drink it too fast as brain freeze can be a big pain!

I used to wolf down ice lollies too fast and suffer, but I don't drink milk that cold.
