Wow, India seems a lot cheaper than in Australia where i am. For $1 here you could buy 1/2 chocolate bar, 1/3 loaf of bread, a lollipop, 1/3 can of coke............i am having trouble thinking of things for $1. Prices vary so much depending on what brand and where you buy it also.

well the cost of daily life varies a lot. I live in a mining town, so things are a bit more expensive here like houses, fuel, fruit & vegetables, but wages are good. My husband is on $32.50 an hour plus overtime & doubletime, so it more than makes up for it.

a cup of tea is around $2.50. A large Mc Donalds meal is around $7 - $8. Most average type jobs earn around $15 - $19 an hour. But it does vary a lot depending on what industry you work in and where abouts in Australia also. If my husband was doing the same job in a different city, he would probably be on around $18 - $21 an hour. So it makes a big difference moving to a mining town.

it means 1 dollar, most filipino families do live on a dollar a day. :(
one dollar is like 1 meal, no rice yet.. or 1 dollar here could be a kilo of rice...
one dollar is about 2 bottled water, or two bottled iced tea...
it seems like a dollar in here is sooo small, really.

Well I live in the US, so let me tell you a $1 won't get you much anymore. It won't even buy a loaf of bread. It seems like the exchange rate of the american dollar is really good for foreign counties. I am really interested to see how the rate exchange is for other countries. I will definitly have to check back as you get more responses. Take care!

How much does one need to survive in the US? Well I guess it would really depend on how much in debt that person is and how big a family one would need to support. I am a stay at home mom. We are a family of 5. So the only income we have is my husbands. My husband gross yearly earnings is approx. $35,000 (that's before taxes are taken out). Once taxes are taken out, our yearly earnings is approx. $27,000. Divide that by 12 and our monthly income to live off of is approx. $2,250. Of course keep in mind that we don't have any debts other than the standard mortgage, electric, telephone, cable, water, and internet. We have no credit cards, no vehicle payments, etc.
How much does a meal cost? It depends on where you eat. Fast food places average about $5.00 for one meal.
