I have used both the VISTA and XP in my laptop and i think windows XP is the better in the terms of reliability and the compatibility to the different softwares installation and vista is having the better look than that of the XP but what i think is that one should go for the xp only. As far as the look is concerned, there are the lite packs like vista transformation pack are available which are giving the same look as that of the vista. Moreover the main difference is that the vista don't support some of the games effectively whereas there is not such a problem with the windows xp.

For me Vista is more visually appealing, displays the finest image in clear and vibrant colors this is why it requires medium to hi end system. It is the most secure window so far because it require explicit authority before a programs can be run. These are the reasons why Vista has accumulated so much a negative remarks, nothing new to every window releases before. If your computer meet the requirements then you wont have any problem. I believe given some time everyone will be loving this one.

Most of the ifferences between VIsta and XP aren't visible. It's all in operation and where stuff is located. Vista's a bit of a memory hog so you kind of need 2gigs, minimum to run the thing at a decent speed. And the security advisor is annoying enough that pretty much everyone shuts it off. But the majority of problems Vista has/had are because it was rushed out early. Developers for other software and companies that make various components (printers and whatnot) didn't have time to become Vista friendly. Even then those who did didn't always do it right. As a result lot's of "Vista friendly" stuff in fact wasn't. Vista is a prime example of what happens when a company stops paying attention to the people who make their product work.

If you are a gamer then I would recommend to stick to Windows XP as for now. Most games that were released for XP run better under Win XP, not on Vista even if they are Vista-friendly. Vista still has bugs and is not regarded as a good OS by many an IT specialist. Anyway, Microsoft decided not to stop Windows XP support till 2010, so you may go on using Windows XP - it is a reliable system.

As a tech I recommend XP over vista any day. Its a pain in the butt to fix. The new things with vista are: They've changed the names of some programs like outlook express is now windows mail It takes alot more space and memory to run It has security features that check to make sure you really want to run a program. Also has more parental control features. in windows xp if you boot into safe mode as administrator you can generally get around the user account passwords - vista you cant Vista is laid out more like a MAc in looks Vista has Some spyware protection built in, xp doesnt I'm sure theres more differences but those are the ones i remember off the top of my head Oh yeah..its locked out alot of nice tools i like to use!
