What would you do if you saw someone leave their child unattended in the car?

Not long ago on one of my shuttle trips back from Raleigh Durham Airport, fully loaded with Marines, I stopped at a gas station to let everyone out for refreshments and to use the ATM. I was sitting in my van when a guy pulled up next to me and got out and walked in to the store. I looked over at his car and was admiring it because I like Chrysler 300. Well, I looked in the back seat and noticed he had a baby, and he left baby in the car, engine running, and the doors unlocked. I sat there for at least 10 minutes watching the guy in the store, with his back to the car buying whatever he was getting. Now 14 Marines came out of store after doing everything they needed to do. They asked why we were not leaving, and I told them about the baby in the car. I said we are not leaving until this guy comes out. They agreed to wait. Well, after 10 minutes he comes to car and I asked him, how could you just leave this baby in the car like that. Do you not watch the news or do you just not care about the baby? He told me he was watching him and the car the whole time. I stated to him it only takes seconds for this to happen. He then told me I needed to mind my own business. I told him I should have called the cops, is what I should have done but, I just decided to wait till he came out and keep my eye on the baby and the car. He started to come around the car, and towards my van but , chose to turn around when 14 Marines started to get out of my van. Smart thing on his part I would say but, what would you have done? Would you have called the police, or would you have sat there till he came back out?
